Things that don't add up the TNG edition

Since there's one of these in the Disco forum I thought I'd start one here for TNG.

So post away people your thoughts on things inside TNG that didn't quite add up or have kept you guessing over the years since the show ended.

I don't really have any one thing that niggles me about TNG. However there are a couple of things I do wonder about.

Whatever happened to the microbrains from the episode "home soil" and the planet where Wesley dumped his nanites so they evolve. I've often wondered if future Federation ships had visited either planet.

Well, it kind of defies the notion that their final lines in the episode suggest that the letter could be taken home, when peace exists. Sending the letter home before then, kind of flies in the face of that. Especially since if no peace exists yet, then the letter is basically from a traitor

One thing that doesn't add up in TNG is Worf's parenting, specifically the fact that the kid's mother died, and what does he do to honor her memory? fight every possible aspect of raising him, that she'd approved of, in lieu of forcing on him all the aspects of only part of his lineage, that she didn't want him to be saddled with. You'd think that someone raised by humans, who also chooses to live with & work among them, would understand that better than anyone else of their race. Frankly, Worf is the only Klingon in existence maybe that could've offered that kid what he needed in life, & deliberately chose not to. Worf soundly displays every reason why she was right to withhold the knowledge of his son, in the first place

I have to agree, Worf was a terrible parent so yeah no wonder Alexander was a secret for so long.

Barclay could have been fine back then and slowly got more and more insecure later

I don't know he seems pretty far gone when we first see his problems surface.

And Dr Pulaski's reactions to Data on the bridge in "Where Silence has Lease" Geez Louise that was kind of off.

There's a Twitter theory that Elnor in PIC is Jarok's son.

Probably more fanwank than a credible probability at this stage, though.
That would be really cool though! It would be great to bring that episode full circle.

If we’re judging TNG by the same standards as Discovery.

No way McCoy would live to 140 still to hate transporters. And McCoy has seen androids before so why does he compare Data to a Vulcan?! And no way those ship designs are a logical continuation of ship designs in TOS, and why would they continuously rename new ships Enterprise and just add letters? And really, only 3 letters in 90 years? And where are the yeomans?! The Klingons are supposed to be red humans with Mongolian style goatees, and where the hell was this Honor stuff in TOS? The star date system doesn’t sync up with the one in TOS either. TNG MUST EXUST IN DIFFERENT TIMELINE THAN TOS!

OMG there's a lot there to unpack.

Is Enterprise the only name for their flagship?

Ooh I like the idea that those microbrains evolved to become the Crystalline Entity, but that doesn't make sense since Data says he encountered that before Starfleet found him, but hey I love that idea.

There are fathers like that...and mothers too.

Not THE Crystalline Entity, just A Crystalline Entity. It's safe to assume there's more than one.
• The CE we saw could've developed from a different microbrain (maybe even on the same planet) sometime in the past.
• The microbrain we saw could've developed into a different CE, sometime in the future. And still might.

Hey, if you hold TNG to the same standard of continuity as some hold Disco, my post is perfectly valid. :)

Serious answer, they design a premise that makes sense if the Enterprise is deployed alone in deep space like a traveling community. Then they are always in week’s travel from the central planets of the Federation. They are 20% discovering new life and new civilizations and 80% boldly politicking where everyone has gone before.

Having families and civilians only makes sense if they are in deep space on an exploration mission far away from major conflicts, like a traveling trade city that happens to have a military contingent.

Not ones that are supposedly so devoutly honorable as Worf presents. The honorable thing to do as a widower is consider what the child's other parent's wishes were, & uphold them as being at least half of what should be done, because they are dead, & can no longer be an influence in the kid's life personally. The remaining parent takes on the responsibility of representing both.

Worf literally dishonors K'ehleyr's memory, by fully disregarding her way of raising Alexander. That means Worf is dishonorable, & that don't add up with what's presented imho

Yeah, the Whole Woof parenting thing was.. tragic.. You have a son! to love, to honor, to teach.. I mean Klingons are highly famous for there family's.. even so far as the main famlies running the place.. yet Worf has a son.. and pretty much disowns him ( sent to his parents).. I know its the writters fault for introducing him them not having anything for him to do.. but it could have been handled much better.. I could be like Orville's doctor and her kids.. just show them ocasionally, have a b plot with him doing something a couple times a year.. sheesh..
