Game The Most Disliked Guinan Appearance, 2025 Edition

THE OBJECTIVE: A sudden-death elimination game in which we remove our personal favorite episodes/movies from a themed list, until we arrive at the episode that is, if not the worst, at least the most disliked.

It's a framework to say positive things about episodes from across the franchise.

THE RULES: Below is a list of Guinan appearances from TNG, PIC, and the movies.

Eliminate/save your favorite, or the one you deem the ‘best' of what currently remains.
Post something you enjoy about the episode you are saving, and copy-and-paste the list with your choice removed.

You can use any standard you like to judge which option is "best." You can save episodes for being widely recognized “best Trek” classics, or for idiosyncratic qualities that no one appreciates but you.

As you get down the list, you might have to reach more and more for something to enjoy about an episode, and it's OK to eventually save episodes for being "less bad."

But -- no tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you don’t think anyone else will, or because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to “win.”

You can take multiple turns.

I'll start with an obvious one - "Yesterday's Enterprise." Most of the time, it's my absolute #1 ep of all TNG. Particularly fantastic use of Guinan, too.

Honestly, this episode is all but perfect. My only complaint is that we don't cut to the bridge of the Enterprise C during the final battle. It returns to a focus on the current series regulars on the bridge of the D, even though the characters whose emotional arc this episode belongs to are over on the C.

I'm going to choose "Star Trek Nemesis". I know it's not going to get love, but it's a fair movie and it's still better than Picard. This may sound like tactical voting but if you find my posts in the past I have defended Nemesis. So perhaps a whiff of tacticalness, but it's not unfounded. It was nice to get a cameo from her and see her one last time in 'proper' Star Trek. To me that appearance is iconic for that.

I'll finish up "Time's Arrow" with a save for Part II. In many ways this is probably a sentimental favorite - the first Trek finale/premiere two-parter I experienced in real time. But I do love it.

I would think about how much I was dying to see "Part II" on a pretty much daily basis all through summer '92. It's my BOBW.

I also think it basically functions as Guinan's exit from the series. We will see her twice more, but this is the last time her character is center stage on TNG. The mystery of her special relationship with Picard is solved, a thread that had run since her very first appearance.

I guess I will save The Measure of a Man. It is among my favorite episodes of the series and Guinan was able to point out the obvious slavery parallels to Cap'n P to help his case for the defense.
