The 60th Anniversary??

What do you think will happen for the 60th Anniversary, in under 17 months time?

We know that Strange New Worlds Season 4 is in production, Starfleet Academy Season 2 has already been commissioned before we've even got a trailelr for Season 1, and William Shatner and Kate Mulgrew have let slip they have been approached with something (Shatner already has a long discussion thread)

Novels have neen announced, the biggest are a of confusion for almost a decade now is what is happening with the movies? Seeral scripts and directors have passed through with no result! The latest seems to be 'Star Trek Begins' which doesn't sound very Trek at all! (especially as we've got 4 prequels already)

What do you want? Paramount missed the 40th and Beyond was the 50th, but now the series is up and running I'd be very surprised if we don't get anything!

Another milestone coming up is the 1000th installment in the franchise. By my count, including all movies, animated shows and Short Trek's, we're currently at 954 canonical entries . We know that there are at least 20 more episodes of Strange New Worlds coming up and 20 episodes of Starfleet Academy, which would bring the total up to 994 entries. At this point, it's all a matter if the 1000th installment will be on Strange New Worlds or Starfleet Academy. I can see the merits of having a special episode like that, if they choose to acknowledge it at all, being on either show as Pike is where it all began and Starfleet Academy is where it's all going.

Ok, seriously, I really like @Turtletrekker’s idea!
Plus, maybe a “montage” documentary of past and existing shows?
Imagine there might be a “Merch-Fest”?

I'd love to get something crazy for the 60th along the lines of Doctor Who's Day of the Doctor or even Power of the Doctor, but if the last few decades are any indication, then 'nothing' is what we're getting.

That pretty much mirrors my thoughts as well. What do I think will happen for the 60th? Probably nothing. What would I like to see? A special ep of SNW that flashes ahead to 2270, showing the final voyage of Kirk's 5YM. I realize of course, this would require casting McCoy, Sulu and Checkov a wee bit ahead of time, which is why this is merely a pipe-dream of mine.

For the 30th they went out of their way to make the TOS sets feel like they could exist as a part of the world developed by TNG and DS9. I think we can do even better now.

I suspect we would've heard if they were filming at Ticonderoga by now as they're already filming season 4. Being a visitor attraction somebody would spill the beans, much like Doctor Who's 50th that filmed at the DW Experience. You couldn't keep that secret for a minute, and that was before they even got the cameras in.

What is most likely is a 32nd and 23rd century crossover between the two remaining tv shows. Cheap and simple, with some nostalgic memberberries and a quick cameo for good measure. I don't think think they'll celebrate the birth of the show by doing anything TOS-era related, as its not the audience they want. That's where OTOY will likely come in.

Hard to say. If the 60th anniversary had arrived in, say, 2021, I think it'd be a fairly epic deal. The well's dried up slightly, with Paramount's ongoing difficulties foremost as to why. First Contact Day largely came and went this year.

Of course, it's still... the 60th anniversary. I'd be surprised if Strange New Worlds doesn't have something special planned for it, and props to them for being the current flagship series (so to speak) when it happens, because it's a pretty damn fitting setting for any fictional festivities.

I cannot believe the 30th was near 30 years ago! I feel old. They really went all out for the 30th. The highlight for me was DS9’s Trials and Tribbleations, still one of my favourite episodes, and we also got TNG’s arguably best movie, First Contact. Voyager of course was an “also ran” with Flashback, but, like the show itself, that was a disappointment. Overall there was a huge amount of love and affection for Trek. I remember a great pull-out supplement in Radio Times, the UK equivalent of TV Guide. There were features in various magazines and newspapers. Star Trek was everywhere and in great health in 1996.

10 years later it was crickets and tumbleweed.

10 years after that we got Beyond, which I ended up enjoying after having written it off watching the shitty trailers.

I don’t really expect anything this time around, especially with the sense that Trek is dwindling again. But hey, maybe we’ll get some wacky SNW episode where an alien virus means the crew are only able to communicate by singing the TOS theme.

I'd be happy if they simply introduce the three remaining TOS characters in some minor capacity, just to acknowledge the show's origin.

And yeah, I agree with you totally about 'Trials and Tribbleations'. That was a brilliant and totally enjoyable segment of Star Trek. It would be great to see something akin to that, but I'm not holding my breath.
