NOTE: This is just an announcement. The CD itself goes on sale next week. This is the first expanded Trek score to be released by another label but they're legit. Check them out at www.lalalandrecords.com.

This album is also limited to 5000 copies so it will run out one day. Star Trek II and III were unlimited.

Excellent. This is one of Goldsmith's best scores, unfortunately it hasn't gotten the attention it deserves. Hopefully this will rectify that. A shame that it's a limited release, though. I'll have to order it early, I guess.

Fuck limited releases. I already didn't get the Innerspace score and the Independence Day score was sold out, too. But hey, if they don't want my money... there's always someone who shares soundtracks. Quite rapidly, too.

Limited releases are done under a special contract so that the label doesn't have to pay as much in union fees.

Film score releases are pretty much a niche market, and they had to come up with this deal with the unions to make it financially viable to release anything at all.

Incidently, the expanded ID4 has NOT sold out:

The music companies can't win. The TNG Ron Jones boxed set had to be limited, too, to make it financially viable and there was a wailing and gnashing of teeth, but it didn't sell out in Month #1 and then we had people complaining it should be cheaper, should have been available as separate disks, had a boring package design, should be in stores so the customers can fondle it first...

ST V is a lesser popular film than ST II and JJ's ST, and is probably a much riskier venture, but I'm sure there'll be enough to go around. (He says hopefully before pre-ordering...)

PS: Just checked out the site. I assumed, from a post Christopher recently made, that "The Flash" limited edition CD set, which I hadn't heard about before, had sold out, but it was still there. Woo hoo!

Independence Day score was sold out, too.
Wow! "SHIPPING APRIL 27th. LIMITED EDITION OF 5000 UNITS."

And still available.

STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER may be a less popular film, but it's also a STAR TREK film, and a Jerry Goldsmith score. I have no doubt that, if it doesn't sell out, it will certainly sell out much faster than the RON JONES box-set (which is by no means a slight against that set, which I am hoping to receive for Christmas).

Just as a side note to soundtrack enthusiasts, Danny Elfman's expanded BATMAN RETURNS is being released by La-La Land the same day. I'll take this and TFF, two crappy movies partially redeemed by excellent scores.

The movie may not be that great, but the score is awesome. First day buy for me on this one!

As for Star Trek V, it goes on sale Tuesday at 1:00 P.S.T. Be there and you'll get it! :)

And as OneBuck said, these are limited for a reason. They could've kept it at 3000 copies (like Innerspace) but they paid more for 5000 copies instead.

Please buy it. My rent is due.

Of that I, too, have no doubt. They are quite different animals. But... IIRC, the JJ Abrams' ST expanded soundtrack was also a strictly limited edition, and caused some panic before pre-sales were opened online, and it ended up seemingly to be a suitable number for demand. IIRC.

Danny Elfman's expanded BATMAN RETURNS is being released by La-La Land the same day.

Ah, thanks! How come no one is yelling "double dip" on these expanded soundtracks? :rommie:

The 2-disc STAR TREK album sold out in a few weeks, but, yeah, it's not as if it sold out in the first hours of being on sale or anything.

Well, I imagine the nearly twenty years between CD releases probably helps a little. :p

And now I'm faced with the question of whether I rewatch TFF just to figure out whether I really want to own the music...
