Star Trek V expanded score 11/30!!

I've been waiting for this release of the full TREK V score for years. Say what you want about the film itself, but Goldsmith's soundtrack is brilliant.

The "Mind Meld" theme that starts the film off (and is expanded in "Free Minds") is fantastic and has never been released. His God theme and the material for "the Mountain" were the basis for material used in First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis, though they work best here.

I recall seeing the film opening day and LOVING the way Goldsmith tied the Courage fanfare with his TMP theme in a new, more powerful orchestration.

I hope they do complete these extended editions with Trek IV and VI. And if they do remaster TUC, I really hope they include the music Eidelman composed for the trailer. It was never heard in the film and is amazing, especially his use of the fanfare.

I told you all the Jones set was coming ,and inspite of him saying so himself, people wouldn't fully believe me.

I told you TSfS was coming, still, more disbelief.

I told you TFF was going to happen as well, now here it is.

Only one title I said was coming, has not yet come to pass -- so, choose to not believe me if you want (and if you do, start saving money up):

"Star Trek: First Contact" (complete; Jerry & Joel Goldsmith)

I hope for First Contact and Insurrection. I finally want to hear the kick ass film version of the fight between Picard and Rua'fo aboard the collector without annoying sound effects.

There's already expanded versions of FC and INS in the form of bootlegged copies.

Joker,

Nemesis and TMP are also out there in complete or near-complete footwarmer forms.

A LEGITIMATE release of each title is what is needed.

The FIRST CONTACT bootleg, at least, has terrible sound quality, so an official release would be a much welcome improvement.

I belong to the camp that doesn't really care if it's legitimate or not.

There was, until recently, no way to listen to the complete scores of 2, 3 and 5. Now there is. Hooray.

There also hasn't been a properly mixed (nor a complete) release of the STAR TREK: GENERATIONS score, which was noted up the thread.

Nor has there been a complete release for STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, though a combination of the bootlegs and the expanded edition come close.

Honestly, if we can have official releases that are as nice as the FSM expanded score for 5, the Varese deluxe edition score for 11, and the FSM expanded scores for 2 & 3, I'll be quite the happy camper.

TMP. TUC, and GEN are the three I'm awaiting.

Yeah, these are fine more or less, but exactly that music track I was talking about is just a very bad DVD rip with sound effects and some voices, too.

Berman had it filtered down to meet his "sonic wallpaper" edict.
I'm not a "Berman Hater" by any means - but I've always abhorred this directive. In later seasons of TNG and beyond it was carried through to mind numbingly generic proportions. I've always wondered what TNG et al would've been like with a more pronounced "thematic" musical aesthetic - closer to the first two seasons perhaps.

But they're not complete, and thus, don't include the cue that JarodRussell wants to hear. Also, the sound quality (for FIRST CONTACT, I'm not sure about INSURRECTION) is pretty drab.

What does the Generations soundtrack lack? From what I remember it seemed rather complete.

Couple of things.

1. The cue that coincides with the reveal of the Enterprise boat after the Enterprise-B sequence.
2. The AWESOME piece that plays when the Enterprise-D is revealed for the very first time onscreen that fades into the sequence where Riker and crew searching the Amigosa Station.
3. The ENTIRE Amigosa Star collapse sequence.
4. The eerie music that plays in Stellar cartography.
5. The film version of the Enterprise crash sequence.

So yeah, that's a lot of missing music.

Also missing:
- The entire Enterprise-B sequence between the main titles and Kirk's descent into deflector control.
- The evacutation / separation sequence of the Enterprise-D (combined with Picard's attempt to circumvent Soran's shield)
- Kirk's "dream" sequence in the Nexus.

I also think the film version of "The Final Fight" was slightly different. When Kirk makes it onto the bridge, there's a cue not included on the CD. Not sure if that was McCarthy's idea or something the producers added.

On topic: got my shipping notice for Trek V. :bolian:

I made listing of missing cues from "Generations" (not counting any scoring that might be in deleted scenes); I don't recall now if I also listed minor alternates ("film versions" that are essentially the same), but it was about 23 minutes missing.

Oh, man. Not only is this Star Trek V soundtrack fantastic, it also has as a bonus the "warp speed" sound effect that plays in the opening credits when the title appears (and many other places). It almost sounds like the THX start up on it's own.

Hehe. I might put it in every Star Trek opening to date.

Any idea if we'll get TUC and GEN?

Or any of the series music from DS9, VGR? Compared to TOS, TNG and ENT (on-line, anywhom) DS9 and VGR music is barely in existence.

The only problem with this is on disc 1, the end credits are not the film version with the sound effects for the Klingon theme and the Busy Man music.

The "rams horn" sound for the Klingon theme is absolutely on disc 1.

The film edit to "A Busy Man" is not included because it's not what Goldsmith composed for the end titles. That edit was done simply for the needs of the film.

It is a great purchase. I finally get the tracks and sounds I've wanted, especially No Harm with the "nautical bells."
