So, anyone here ready to declare this the best Star Trek film yet?

No, not the best. (I don't know if repeated viewing will change that in the future)

But it's up there among the good ones.

As a film, this and Wrath of Kahn are joint best, followed closely by First Contact and The Undiscovered Country.

Pretty much. The only ones that even come close are TMP and TWOK for me. TMP is flawed, but in some ways it is better, and TWOK doesn't even begin to approach this level of excitement, though it does have that arch-nemesis-meets-our-hero element.

This new one is now in the top 3 for me, and possibly number one, though my opinions on these things tend to shuffle around a bit.

well after seeing this one, here's how i'd rate all 11 films.
11. Insurrection
10. Nemesis
09. Generations
08. The Final Frontier
07. The Motion Picture
06. The Search for Spock
05. The Undiscovered Country
04. Star Trek 11
03. The Wrath of Khan
02. First Contact
01.The Voyage Home

Because I'm too young to appreciate the slow pace of the first few films, this movie is indeed the best Star Trek movie yet.

No way. Too many things that just don't make sense, and the action scenes really bug me. It's good, but far from the best.

I guess a lot of people here simply don't love the previous movies as much as I do. I can't rank this yet since I've only seen it once, but I can without a doubt say it will never reach the heights of the (IMO) best 4 TOS films (WoK, SFS, TVH & TUC), I think TMP would be ahead of the film as well.

I love TOS, but the movies are all pretty ordinary. The only one that's ever really blown my socks off is TMP. And that film puts virtually anyone I show it to to sleep. I love it though.

TVH I've always hated, and TUC never really appealed. TWOK is the best of the post TMP films, but even it falls flat for me.

Give me actual TOS episodes anyday.

this was the best "star wars" film in a while.it was good, not great . but i just saw too much in it that was more reminicent of star wars than star trek.

Anyone?

Not me, even though I loved it :)

Just got home. I'm still digesting the film and will need to see it a couple of more times, but my first impression is that it is not as good as the best films.

I enjoyed it, but I don't think it's in the same league as "TWOK"

It is very different. It almost feels like a Michael Bay film in some ways. The moment Leonard Nimoy hit the screen it felt like "Star Trek".

The movie is too new to really rate just yet. Time will tell, though it certainly was a great film

Star Trek XI rawks!!
I really loved this film--so much action, well acted (Greenwood was terrific as Pike), great effects. I was very impressed and breathed a huge sigh of relief that it did not suck. The Trek universe dodged a major potential bullet, here. This is a film that the fans both needed and wanted, IMO.

I'd rate this sixth out of the films for me personally. I enjoyed (in no particular order) First Contact, Generations, Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country more then Star Trek XI.

TWOK is still a tighter story, and this one was burdened with past references (as it had to be), but it's high up there. Certainly better than the TNG dreck.

Hard to rate its place in history yet, but I will say overall it is the best Star Trek FILM ever.
