New Series

As big fans of Trek, what would you like to see in a new Trek series, would you like a show set in the future (after the events of Nemesis) or a prequel series (Before TOS). What would you like the series to be set about? Would it be about a big war? or maybe exploration, going back to what shows like TOS and TNG were about?

And which characters would u like to be the main faces of the show, would you like an old captain, someone with a wealth of command experience and has seen everything, or a young rogue in the mould of Kirk who is a little inexperienced but a brave officer nonetheless, and what crewmembers would follow him or her. Alien officers or humans, and what alien species would be their biggest enemy?

meh. Let's see if they can pull off a decent movie first. I had my fill of latter-day Trek shows.

For a new series I'd like to see either see the 25th Century, which I think can be done in a way that doesn't make it seem like more of the 24th (there's plenty of time to change things around), or a genuine rebooting of Star Trek ala the new Battlestar Galactica.

If this were 2000 I wouldn't have minded a post-DS9 series, just like if this were 1992 I wouldn't have minded a Sulu series, but the boats have sailed on both of those.

If the new movie's a hit and they don't make the mistake of casting actors who wouldn't do TV, sure I'd like to see TOS back on the small screen. Trek needs the long format of TV to explore its themes fully. Movies are just snacks inbetween the main courses.

A series based on a movie that just made a big splash in the theaters is most likely to survive. Doing anything else - Birth of the Federation, Post-Dominion War, etc - isn't going to do any better than ENT did, regardless of whether I might like to see it. Above all, Trek needs to get back on its feet.

I always thought that they should have done 1 and a half hour tv movies of Trek after DS9 and Voyager ended each one focusing on one or two characters or maybe even a few of all the different shows...kind of mixing and matching..so you could have had Belanna Torres, Data, and Ezri Dax on a mission behind enemy lines or Ben Sisko, Chakotay and Beverly Crusher commadeering a Starship....

I guess it will never happen now though

But say, this was your series and you were making it, and you wanted it to be a succesful return for Trek, how would you reinvent it, i think its all to do with the characters of the show and their relationships with each other, i think one of the overall reasons TNG did so well as it did because the characters were excellent and individuals with unique personalities such as Data, Riker, Worf and Picard, even Q was an important part of the show, if any series wanted to be as big as TNG then they would have to have a range of characters that everyone would get to like straight away, Ent and Voy didnt have as interesting characters as TOS and TNG, thats why they didnt so well, not because of the era the series was set in. Thats just an excuse.

Personally i'd like to see new personalities brought in, maybe have a sexy female Romulan officer serving on a starfleet ship that would be new and interesting, however we would want her to have her own personality as opposed to T'pol off Ent because that's already been done. I think an Andorian on board aswell would be a great inclusion, i liked seeing this species on Ent and i thought Jeffery Combs played a great character in Shran and would have liked to see him more often, if we could see more of this in a new Trek, this would be very entertaining.

I also think that the actor who played Curtis Manning on Series 4 - 6 of 24 could make a good first officer on a new show, would be in the no-nonsense sort of attitude and brave and loyal like Worf but of course new characters must bring something new and different from old characters.

If it was me doing a new Trek series I think I would have it very different from any previous show.... I think the crew and ship itself would almost be as unknown to us and them as they space they are traveling through..... I would have the series start with the ship being found adrift with the main crew on board unconscious save mabe one or two later regulars...we then discover that they have been missing for three years and have no recollection of anything...anyway the ship is given a refit and is sent to an unknown area of space to deal with a new enemy/ally who seem to have prior knowledge of the crew and ship....its later discovered that they were operational during the three years missing and have some kind of psychic link with the ship...amongst other strange things which I won't go into now

I've thought too much about this haven't I???

I think featuring a new alien species who exist on another plane of reality, and the new starship leads an away team to a new planet that the Klingons and Romulans both want to claim for their own, once on the planet surface, the Klingons and Romulans have their bodies taken over by the spirits of the aliens who aren't exactly corporeal. The Klingons and Romulans then attack the starfleet away team. The new Captain must defeat the new enemy before him and his away team are killed.

If it were my series and I had guaranteed hit ratings, I'd probably go back and do Birth of the Federation, but this time right!

But in the real world, the only chance Trek has to succeed on TV again is:

1. Movie based on TOS characters is big fat hit.

2. Producers figure out why it was a hit and use that as the basis for a TV series.

2a. Most likely, the characters/actors will be a big reason for the success, so go back a step and..

1a. Make sure you cast people in the role who would do TV.

The only series I want is to pick-up Enterprise where they left off and completely disavow any knowledge of TATV. Start just after Terra Prime.

You'll be waiting a long time...
I agree with Temis any new Trek on tv is either going to grow directly out of this feature film and or mimic it at least in setting if not with characters since those involved in owning Star Trek are going to attempt to capture the hoped for success of this film.

Though I expect before Trek returns to tv there'll be at least two more movies before then.

Early 25th c. miniseries about some of the characters from TNG, DS9, and VOY, maybe even including Spock. Aired on a cable channel, it would be 6-8 hours long and about six months later it would be released on DVD while the next installment is aired. I would want Capt. Riker with Deana plus Georde as his XO all aboard the Titan to start. I might include Bashir, Torrez-Paris, and a few others.

If the movie is success ful and a 6th series come after that.....

1. Have it where it left on, some years after Star Trek: Nemesis. I say around 2386 or 2387.
2. Would be nice to have the 6th, 7th and 8th (the first few seasons) to finish off the 24th century.

I"m a futuristic person more than in the TOS days lol

How this movie goes is going to determine what happens next.

If the movie is a massive overwhelming "lined up around the block" success, they'll inevitably go to sequels with the same cast (though with a different producer/director). I'm hoping that this DOESN'T happen, by the way... not because I don't want a success, but because I think this movie will serve best as a "one-shot" idea... otherwise, it risks "altering Trek-reality."

If the movie is an abject money-bleeding failure, the film will be the last thing we'll see for a LOOONG time.

If the movie is a moderate success... which I think is the most likely turn of events... we'll see more Star Trek but it won't be a direct continuation of this film. It might be a new TV show that's a "spin-off" or it might be a new TV-show that's unrelated in setting (but potentially similar in FEEL). Or it might be something that takes some major risks... that's what I'm most hoping for.

The idea that some of the "wonderful utopian" elements of TNG-era life actually can become perverted into something deeply ominous... after all, technology is just a tool... and the ability to replicate a new spinal column for Worf, for example, or to reprogram someone's DNA, could be HORRIFIC if misused.

There's a huge window of opportunity in a prequil of Kirk from eighteen to 32. I mean c'mon we wouldn't live that long to see all the movies possible. A t.v. series spin off would be wonderful too in between that but would need a new and exciting concept/premise to drive it and fresh new characters perhaps tested on the big screen.

An animated series set in the 24th century. That'll take care of our jones for more Picard, Janeway, Dax, 7 o' 9, et al. Get the people that animate X-Men: Evolution and Ultimate Avengers movies. Get some good sci-fi TV writers (an animated Colonel Kira tale written by Jane Espenson!) and get the original casts to lend their voices, since they've done tons of cartoon work on Gargoyles and Justice League.

Done. New series. Lower budget. Same characters on new adventures.

Air it on Sci-Fi Channel.

I would prefer a complete re-imagining like Battlestar Galactica, but it doesn't look like they're going that direction with the movie. So, maybe if the movie doesn't do as well as they had hoped, they could do a re-imagined series in a few years.

I would prefer what ENT initialy promised. Man's initial exploration of the galaxy. A more uptodate version of TOS.
