NEMESIS STILL LOOKS GOOD!

Enjoy NEMESIS, if you must, but ...
I, for one, still can't believe how Stuart Baird had the temerity to let Marina and Gates look like doggy-doo, in this picture! Marina, especially, has enough make-up on to stop a bullet. When she's in sickbay, after Shinzon and his Viceroy mind-rape her, Marina looks unforgivably bad! For their last outing, would it have hurt to give Marina and Gates the TMP "youthifying" treatment? Otherwise the effects totally look CGI in nature, the story is rubbish and the set-lighting is too harsh. But, hey ... NEMESIS has its audience and that's cool. I only own it, myself, because I am a STAR TREK movie completist.

Yes, the FX do actually hold up quite well. It's still the worst Trek movie by some margin though.

Well, I can't agree with that. To paraphrase Sheldon Cooper: The Final Frontier is orders of magnitude worse than Nemesis.
Nemesis is a deeply flawed movie, but I still find it pretty watchable (much moreso than Insurrection). And yes, I agree, the movie LOOKS great and the effects hold up well, even on Blu-Ray.

... this, however, is a very tenuous statement (or, at the very least, an entirely subjective one).
I really can't see that happening around here anytime soon.
I love the zoom-in on the Romulan city at the start... but can't not notice the double (or more) sized CG people! They're the same height as the senate doors on the outside, then we cut to indoors, where the doors dwarf the Romulans guarding them.
Personally, I thought Nemesis looked the cheapest of the films--next to STV or GEN. The space battles were good, I'll give them that. Yet,the rest of the movie just looked "made for tv".

other than the re-used effects shot of the bird-of-prey, what was cheap about it? It looks gorgeous ad cinematic.
Let's be honest, Star Trek is not the height of cinematography and film making, however I like modern-looking cinema, and I think Nemesis still looks from good even now.
Yeah, for me it looked cheap. The saucer crash being the biggest moment that needed to be redone. I will give them credit for shot of the D warping away from the station.
Could be down to the fact that they used modified TNG sets and the familiarity of 7 years plays into my opinion.
Personally, I'd take TFF over Nemesis in a heartbeat. For all its flaws, TFF has tremendous heart, classic TOS Kirk/Spock/Bones character moments, and, it's LIVELY - with a real sense of energy injected by Shatner's (underrated) directorial style.Yes, the FX do actually hold up quite well. Nemesis, on the other hand, feels horribly flat, dull and just, well, perfunctory. It's a cliché, but the performances really do seem "phoned in". To me, the actors often come across as if they're completely disengaged with the material.
Its Insurrection that looks the "cheapest" of the TNG films, in my opinion
2002 is not really a cinematographic ancient time.
Tom Hardy, already dying and near dementia, looks also bad when Picard is transpiercing him!
Having re-watched it the other day, it was interesting to see the "warp exhaust" (later adopted for STiD) effect when the Enterprise takes off.
Considering that ST09 and STID came out with MUCH bigger budgets, it is amazing how good Nemesis looks. The Enterprise E looks beautiful inside and out. I especially like how the bridge is lit. People keep harping on about how the TNG films look "cheap". I think Generations looks amazing, and First Contact could hold up to a movie released today. The only one that is underwhelming is Insurrection, but I blame that on them going totally CGI at a time when the technology just wasn't there.
i remember reading a quote from Berman at the time where he said NEM looked like a Ridley Scott movie and although i thought the film was disappointing i had to admit it did look abit if RScott had directed a Trek film! (pity he didn't direct it reteaming with the Gladiator writer)
