I think the lens filters date the movie. It was big in the early part of the last decade. I would love to cut that sequence out of the film. It doesn't really need to be there. It's a waste of precious screen time. Give me some time alone with Shinzon.
Another thing--really bad performances by the Romulans in this film. I think they needed a makeover. The ridges are too pronounced, for one. And the skin is a mess.
The Scimitar set lacks realism (all the stairs) and is needlessly large. It looks cheap. It isn't a space that reflects our character. Making it dark just seems cheesy, despite the fact the Remans live on the dark half of the world. It's a cliche.
As for the interplay between the characters, the best at making this appear to be an ensemble in the history of the TNG films. I like the interplay between Picard and Shinzon. The rest of the movie doesn't work for me.
