So, maybe I don't have the letters in the right order, but can someone recommend a good, free, MMORPG? I wish that Star Wars: The Old Republic would be ready so I could play that, but I'll happily take your recommendations.

The only free MMO that I've actually tried is Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a long time ago. Besides, I already play City of Heroes/City of Villains.

OP, what constitutes "good" by your definition? Lots of games out there ya know...
I know so very little that I don't yet have a definition of "good" formed.

I think if I knew what I was looking for, I probably wouldn't have posted this request, or I would have been much more specific. Right now, I'm casting a pretty big net on purpose.

When you say free, do you mean you still need to pay for the game but no monthly subscription or do you mean totally absolutely free?

EVE is an absolute vertical climb for about three weeks - and that's only if you join a corp full of friendly, helpful members right away. A good corp is absolutely essential to the experience.

But if you get lucky (you don't have to get that lucky ... the EVE community is enormously helpful and friendly in general, actually) - the game is brilliant - incredibly deep - gorgeous to look at - fun as hell PVP - complex, very real-world esque economy - I could go on and on.

The thing that eventually drove me away from EVE was the combat actually... I wasn't really into PvP at the time (though now that I've played a lot of Warhammer Online my opinion on the subject has changed) and the NPC combat was just really dull and uninteresting to me. Maybe it's just because I've played too many space sims back in the day.

There's a few other space MMO's in development that I've got my eye on though, such as Jumpgate and Black Prophecy.

Stay away from Maple Story, and Fiesta * Sudders* I've worked with a guy for 8 hours who won't shut up about the latter.:scream:
