A lot of interesting responses here. I am not a huge fan of LDS, but I have watched it for the last three seasons because I actually do like Mike McMahon and think that he’s honestly trying to make a good animated show while trying not too hard to take it super-seriously.
The issue I have is that I also think there’s a good show here, but it’s buried under all the trying-too-hard humor, the annoying way the characters interact, the insipid cursing, and the constant call-backs that are fine in small doses but progressively less so as the show goes on.
You know what’s a great animated show? South Park. And it’s not because of the potty humor, insipid cursing and the annoying way the characters interacted, because that only lasted until the creators finally realized what they could actually do with the show: turn it from a juvenile crass toilet humor show into a show about social commentary and poking fun at everything that is absurd in our culture. I’m not saying that LDS has to strive for that, but as the show stands at present, there’s very little that I find redeemable or rewatchable about it.
