How Many Starships?

Well, agree to disagree. The Cochrane we see in "Metamorphosis" is a modest, moral man who is so proper he's initially horrified when he learns that the alien Companion is in love with him. The Cochrane we see in First Contact is... not.

Good movie, but the characterizations don't really seem like the same person, even accounting for the difference of several decades.
Nope, they totally rebooted the character. See also: Misogynistic, grim Pike becoming a warm father figure in the movies and Discovery.

Supposedly they planned at one point to make Cochrane female for FC. That would have been like the recent Yeoman Colt thing (she's gone from human to spikyfaced alien) to the 10,000th power.

Well, when we meet Pike in "The Cage," he's having a really bad day and questioning if he even wants to be in Starfleet at all. I don't have a big problem reconciling that with the guy we saw in ST09. I think calling the "Cage" version misogynistic is a bit much, though.

I haven't seen the second season of Discovery yet, so I can't comment on that, but I REALLY hope the
Yeoman Colt
thing you mentioned isn't a spoiler.

He can't get used to a woman on the bridge. I know Trek's a product of it's time, but.. yeesh.

It's just a background extra credited as Yeoman Colt, but indicates the Disco people's idea of continuity vs. ours.

Okay, so I pulled up the spreadsheet for the game Federation & Empire (from the same company as Star Fleet Battles). Before the General War began, the Federation had 18 Constitution-class heavy cruisers and 6 command cruisers, plus 6 old Republic-class heavy cruisers in mothballs. During the war, they ramp up to building two heavy cruiser hulls per six months, so by the end of the war, they will have 19 command cruisers and 64 heavy cruisers, minus combat losses, of course. Also, during the war, they will build over three hundred of the "new light cruisers".

Sorry about that. I got lost in responding to Garth without thinking that other people were reading
Okay, so you obviously know who I am, even tho I don't use my real name on this board, but I haven't figured out who you are. PM me if you don't want to say in the thread.
