good sci fi movies

So I have become a big fan of sci fi movies and I was wondering if any one knows of any other good sci fi movies I can watch? So far I have watched all of the planet of the apes movies which I loved, all of the star trek movies which are also my favorites, I watched the movies the matrix which was good, I watched avatar which was also good, I also watched indepence day, star gate, e.t., star wars, back to the future, 2001 space odyssey, contact, close encounters of the third kind, and cocoon.

How far back do you want to go? Off the top of my head, there are a lot of old classics to choose from: Forbidden Planet, The Day the Earth Stood Still (the original), The Incredible Shrinking Man, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the original), Five Million Years to Earth (aka "Quatermass and the Pit"), Colossus: The Forbin Project, Westworld, Logan's Run, etc.

Dark City
Children of Men
Solaris
Alien
The Fifth Element
12 Monkeys
Blade Runner
Serenity
Inception
District 9
Back to the Future series
Terminator series

Well you need to watch 2010, the sequel to 2001.

Blade Runner, The Riddick movies,District 9, Children of Men, Inception, The Fifth Element, Galaxy Quest, Deep Impact, Battle: LA, The Abyss, Terminators 1&2 and the Alien movies.

One more: How did I forget FANTASTIC VOYAGE? (That's the one where a miniaturized submarine explores a human body from the inside--and Raquel Welch is attacked by clingy white-blood cells!)

If you're open to animation Titan A.E. is a great movie.

Disney's Treasure Planet, and Atlantis: The Lost Empire are also good.

Pixar's Wall-E is one of my favorite movies. You I didn't realize until I started this how many sci-fi Disney has done.

Brazil is a weird and wonderful classic.
Gattaca was an excellent 1990s sci-fi film.
If you're into more arthouse stuff then Alphaville is a good watch (any film where they travel between planets by car can't be bad;))

Dredd
[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PifvRiHVSCY[/yt]
The Hunger Games

Oblivion

are some good ones from the last year or two.
Have you seen the Terminator movies? The first two are classics, but just stop there.

Silent Running(1972)
Thing(1951)
Thing(2011)
and Thing(1982)
Logan's Run(1976)
Westworld(1973)
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea(1954)
Killdozer!(1974)
Damnation Alley(1977)

It never ceases to amaze me that Silent Running directly inspired two of my favorite things, MST3K and Duncan Jones' Moon.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Primer. Well, there, someone did.

If You like Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes you should check out The Omega Man and Soylent Green. Especially Soylent Green.

Most movies I like, nobody else likes. A favorite of mine is

MISSION TO MARS - 1997 (Gary Sinese, Jerry O'connell)

And I must be one to re-endorse the 2001 sequel 2010:The Year We Made Contact. (Roy Schieder, John Lithgow, and the guy who orginally played Dr. Bowman)

Disney's THE BLACK HOLE ...Good luck finding it though, I been looking for it forever.

Forbidden Planet (Leslie Nelson was a good actor even in serious roles.)

I also liked the remake of "The Day the Earth stood still".

Another scifi favorite of mine, that bombed and no one like is FINAL FANTASY:THE SPIRITS WITHIN (girl who voiced Mulan, the bearded guy from Titanic and Hunger Games, and Alec Baldwin.)

Dark City
Children of Men
Solaris
Alien
The Fifth Element
12 Monkeys
Blade Runner
Serenity
Inception
District 9
Back to the Future series
Terminator series

This is a great list. The only thing I could add to this is more of the spacey stuff, which I like, so Moon, Outland, Apollo 13.

Since the English language is very well represented here, i'll just throw in a few foreign movies that, in my opinion, are well worth checking out:

Dante 01 - A visually excellent French sci-fi set on a spacestation, directed by the lesser known half of Jeunet & Caro. Unfortunately after laying out the groundwork for an interesting film drawing on Dante's Inferno as source material, the film falls apart in the second half as they seem to have run out of money to realise their ambition. Still worth a watch for space fans though.

Ghost in the Shell - Amazing Japanese anime about a future where people can exist in cybernetic bodies, all linked into a vast global network, but somebody is hacking people's minds.

Natural City - A live action Korean movie sharing similar themes with Ghost in the Shell. Occasionally confusing narrative, and also quite slow, but very atmospheric and stylish. Both this and Ghost in the Shell would be a must for Blade Runner fans.

Renaissance - A french motion capture animation set in a future Paris, rendered almost entirely using only solid black & white. Visually amazing, but a little slow. I like slow though personally. I've only seen an English language version of this, I do not know if there is a french dub, but the mouth movements seem to match up with the English, so maybe not.

Cargo - An interesting Swiss sci-fi about a young woman on an 8 year mission through the galaxy to find a better future. Nice space station!

The Clone Returns Home
- Stunning Japanese live action about an astronaut who is killed on a mission, but no bother because in this future he is simply cloned and returned to his wife, but unfortunately not all of his memories are restored properly. A slow and thoughtful meditation on the nature of identity and consciousness.

Space Battleship Yamato - Japanese live action film version of the popular anime. Completely bonkers, excellent special effects, just good fun space adventure stuff.

Timecrimes - Hilarious Spanish time travel movie about a man caught in a timeloop. Absolute genius.

Avalon - Polish language/Japanese Produced live action virtual reality movie from the director of Ghost in the Shell. Sepia drenched, very bleak, atmospheric slow burner. Exquisitely shot.

You're on a Trek board, but didn't mention the films.

ST2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and the two most recent ones. YMMV.

Timequest is a vastly underrated little masterpiece AND it has Bruce Campbell.

I'll have a think and get back to you.
