Since the English language is very well represented here, i'll just throw in a few foreign movies that, in my opinion, are well worth checking out:
Dante 01 - A visually excellent French sci-fi set on a spacestation, directed by the lesser known half of Jeunet & Caro. Unfortunately after laying out the groundwork for an interesting film drawing on Dante's Inferno as source material, the film falls apart in the second half as they seem to have run out of money to realise their ambition. Still worth a watch for space fans though.
Ghost in the Shell - Amazing Japanese anime about a future where people can exist in cybernetic bodies, all linked into a vast global network, but somebody is hacking people's minds.
Natural City - A live action Korean movie sharing similar themes with Ghost in the Shell. Occasionally confusing narrative, and also quite slow, but very atmospheric and stylish. Both this and Ghost in the Shell would be a must for Blade Runner fans.
Renaissance - A french motion capture animation set in a future Paris, rendered almost entirely using only solid black & white. Visually amazing, but a little slow. I like slow though personally. I've only seen an English language version of this, I do not know if there is a french dub, but the mouth movements seem to match up with the English, so maybe not.
Cargo - An interesting Swiss sci-fi about a young woman on an 8 year mission through the galaxy to find a better future. Nice space station!
The Clone Returns Home - Stunning Japanese live action about an astronaut who is killed on a mission, but no bother because in this future he is simply cloned and returned to his wife, but unfortunately not all of his memories are restored properly. A slow and thoughtful meditation on the nature of identity and consciousness.
Space Battleship Yamato - Japanese live action film version of the popular anime. Completely bonkers, excellent special effects, just good fun space adventure stuff.
Timecrimes - Hilarious Spanish time travel movie about a man caught in a timeloop. Absolute genius.
Avalon - Polish language/Japanese Produced live action virtual reality movie from the director of Ghost in the Shell. Sepia drenched, very bleak, atmospheric slow burner. Exquisitely shot.
