Game Music

Most recently I've been listening to the Dawn Of War 2 soundtrack that they have up at Fileshack.

As for others I like, there's Mass Effect, The Halo Series, Wing Commander Series, Medal of Honour and Gears of War 1/2 amongst others:)

Has anyone here tried OCremix? They're the ones who did the music for Street Fighter 2 Alpha HD Remix.

My favourite games for music are Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, C&C: Red Alert, and pretty much any of the Zelda games. One of my favourites is the Fire Temple theme from Ocarina of Time. :techman:

Yup, I've got several tracks that I listen to at work. There's some good ones in there.

Speaking of video game music, has anyone been to any of the Video Games Live concerts? If not, I highly recommend it. I went to the one in Winnipeg last year and I loved every minute of it. Already got my tickets for the 3-day event next month in Winnipeg again. :techman:

The Metroid series has some great atmospheric music. For a different take on the tunes, I recommend the Metroid Metal website.

I think my favourite game score is that of Morrowind. It's rather beautiful.

Yeah Bob, go ahead and call me a fag. :D

I went to the concert in London last year - great stuff. The only small regret I have is that they played music from Halo 3, and I hadn't yet played the game at the time.

I'd like to add MGS 2-4 to the list, too.
Yeah, I forgot about those ones. Each of them had excellent sound tracks and I was particularly impressed with how MGS4 used an iPod to implement sound track selection. it may have been shameless advertising but it was still cool lol

Thanks for the hint :). It's cool they made this available for free.

In case anyone is interested, you can download the Sim City 3000 was well as the Sim City 4: Rush Hour soundtracks for free on the official website.

Also, you can find the music featured in Sim City 4 in the program folder (the tracks are there as mp3s): C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Radio\Stations

I thought Bloodlines had great music. The ambient music was consistently well done and suited the game perfectly, and it had some pretty good licensed stuff as well. Morrowind and Oblivion both have nice title tracks, but the rest of the music is rather bland, in my opinion. I think I enjoyed some of the music from Baldur's Gate, but I can't remember it. Fallout 1 and 2 had some great ambient stuff.

The Best is Yet to Come - Metal Gear Solid

When I heard that song along with the ending cinematic for Metal Gear Solid, I was in awe. Very moving piece.

Stars of Tears - Xenogears OST

This track was cut from the game. There is another track that is just the instrumental version of this in MIDI format that is in the game. I forgot the name of the track.

Scars of Time - Chrono Cross

The piece that plays in the Chrono Cross opening. If you hear it in surround sound, it blows you away.

To Far Away Times - Chrono Trigger

This piece plays during the credits of Chrono Trigger and is probably the best known piece in the game. Great song.

The CC soundtrack really is awesome. Very unique and suited to the atmosphere of the game.

The CT soundtrack isn't far behind, only suffering because of the limitations of the SNES.

I almost forgot Michael Giacchino & Christopher Lennertz' soundtracks for the Medal of Honor series.
Orchestral score's that would easily pass for a good movie soundtrack.

MoH Frontline is still my favourite of all Giacchino's scores - Incredibles, MI-III and Star Trek included.

Other favourite scores would be Jesper Kyd's scores for Hitman 2 Silent Assassin, and Freedom Fighters.

My favorites are:

Deus Ex - NYC Streets
Streets of Rage - Elevator level
Grand Turismo 2 - Best music ever on a video game
GTA Vice City - Great retro tracks playing on the radio stations

I'm actually listening to that right now. It's making me want to fire up CT again. It's been way too long. :D
