I tried it out last night, and as interesting as it was, I still think the 1997 Starfleet Academy PC game (which you can still buy on Steam or GOG) is the definitive playable Kobayashi Maru even after all this time. That game even was remarkably prescient in allowing you to cheat the exact same way as Kelvin timeline Kirk cheated, 12 years before that movie came out.

This browser game does make a strong effort though.

SFA was amazing, and KA was even better, but they can't be compared to a free retro browser game
I've tried giving the mining colony guy the Klingon aphrodisiac or the flame gem, but he didn't want either of them.
Whatever course I try in the nebula gets me destroyed. Perhaps we can work out the solution together XD

It's a fun one, can attest. I've managed to save the poor Tellarite guy, but not to navigate the nebula. Now I just need to find out whats up with the dilithium mines...

You can get the Orion trader to tell you that some pirates are gonna attack the mining colony, and buy stuff from her. The mine guy won't give you his dilithium though, at least not for the gem or the aphrodisiac.

It's a fun one, can attest. I've managed to save the poor Tellarite guy, but not to navigate the nebula. Now I just need to find out whats up with the dilithium mines...

Things I have discovered:

• If you meet with the Orion trader, bring the doctor. If he scans the Romulan ale, it is clean. If he isn't brought along or doesn't scan it, the Romulan ale is poisoned bringing a quick end to the simulation.

• If you go through the asteroid belt to the mining facility, you will meet an Orion raider. I don't know if that encounter is beatable.

• Never beam to station S-12. All ways there end the simulation.

• Going off the patrol (trying to bring the patient to starbase yourself) also ends the simulation.

• If you play long enough/enough times, different text boxes and a change to the narrative occasionally pop up; the destroyed and rebuilt captain's chair allows access to the difficult setting and to enter a password. One needs to keep playing to figure out what the admiral's password is to allow a Kirk win.

You can save the Tellarite by loaning them a shuttle. Still not sure what you can do with the Orion's stuff if you buy it from her... the chair stuff is interesting, I haven't noticed that. Maybe you just have to play again and again, then something happens to the chair and you get passwords? Do you remember when that started?

No idea. I was on somewhere between attempt four and six when I first got that. I think the questios are
1. How much patience do you have?
2. Gow many times can you lose until you get the password and can win without losing your mind?

It happened after the 6th fail (first time I played that long), but nothing else happened until I gave up again after 22 fails XD

I got to the Kobayashi Maru!
You have to get the attack warning from the trader, then you'll encounter the pirates in the asteroid belt. Destroy them with torpedoes, beam the debris aboard, download the nav maps into the computer. Then you can pass through the nebula and reach the ship! Half-way into the evacuation, the Klingons attack, and I haven't gotten past that. Will try different options there later...

I found out how to get the dilithium... you can use that to upgrade your transporters and evacuate everyone before the Klingons attack
