Exeter

Landing parties rather than away teams was a no-brainer, but I had to be reminded during the scripting phase that we had a "hangar deck" rather than a "shuttle bay." "Corinth IV" is a planet actually mentioned in TOS.
And no freakin' Warp Core! :techman:

Or that ModTrek declaration of impending doom, "Bridge, we've got a coolant leak! We're X minutes from a Warp Core breech!"

Well, I'll say one thing: the one-act-per-year Chinese water torture technique of releasing a fan movie has its advantages. You know it's a good show if you keep checking the web-site to see when the next segment has arrived. Exeter's "Tressaurian" definitely passes the wait test.

I just want to take this opportunity to say that, despite all the criticisms of TOS, what we've seen so far of "Tressaurian" confirms (to me, at least, FWIW) that even the fans "get it" and have been able to produce a TREK better than alot of eps from the Berman years. "Tressaurian" is nicely layered and loads of fun to watch. It breaks all the Berman-era rules: wonderful in-your-face musical score, shows that even the fans can take the old Connie and make it entertaining to watch it in flight even today... and THAT BRIDGE! I'll stack up a Connie bridge to any command center we've seen since TOS. And unlike "In a Mirror, Darkly", the lighting, control panel sound FX and other details of the "Tressaurian" bridge are all breathtakingly faithful to TOS.

Of course, "Tressaurian" can be a little too faithful to TOS... Just what we need is another Tholian story where we discover yet another Connie adrift in space with the entire crew dead. And one great thing about TNG is that we could enjoy quite a few post-Cold War stories that have nothing to do with military confrontations. Let's hope we don't have to wait another 2-3 years for another Exeter outing, and let's hope the next one is about facing challenges and perils in exploring space, without the high body count.

At least we can hope for more Exeter. It'll be worth the wait.

Wow...Exeter. I forgot all about this. I used to look forward to this, but then I realized it was never going to be finished. What's the excuse now, still waiting on the "special effects"?

Last year people were saying that Part 3 would never be released.

It will be finished.

You're more than welcome to move on, of course.

You guys just keep that quality over quantity thing going and we'll do just fine. Yes, I'd love to watch the latest episode, but I'm also aware that these people (yourself included, Dennis) are doing this on their own dime all for my entertainment.

I can wait. You just keep doing your best because it shows quite readily in your results.

J.
