ENT in XI

5. If all else fails blame it on UFO's, Aliens, Black Ops, The Goverment, The System, your 5 grade science teacher who gave you an F, that weird looking guy down the street, for not "Getting" what Star Trek is all about.

I have it on good [BLEEP]ing authority that Bush caused Trek 11 to happen to [BLEEP] off the *true* fans.
And Nimoy's apparently positive facade is a result of torture and wiretapping.

Obviously, Cogley made a misprint. He meant Martin Luther King, Jr. Msrtin Luther King, Jr. was the stand-in that actually got killed, which is how Martin Luther King is still alive to beg Nichelle (simultaneously by phone, letter, text message, and in person) to get Abrams to choose Quinto. Obviously.

None of which proves your original assertion that someone was trying to "sweep TOS under the rug."

To you it doesn't which doesn't surprise me. What does is that you admitted that Gene Roddenberry instructed his staff to ignore TOS. Which was the "why" I was talking about that everyone knew. Your real beef was with the loose metaphor I used which wasn't politically correct enough for your taste and, for some reason, seemed mean-spirited and assaulting to the point that you were offended.

If you didn't agree with my choice of words and thought it wasn't exactly accurate, fine. Apparently that phrase you have in quotation marks has a slightly different, more casual meaning to me than it does for you.

If you disagreed entirely and felt there were waaay too many TOS oriented productions during the 90s and not enough focus on the 24th century era, more power to you.

It is a well known fact by anyone who cares about this stuff that GR wanted his writers to avoid TOS because he wanted fresh ideas. How this equates "sweeping TOS under the rug" to you is what you haven't been able to prove. Being smug, condescending and insulting to me doesn't prove your assertion, which is all you've been able to do. For someone "in the know," you haven't really proven that you know all that much.

Deep Space Nine marked the start of Star Trek's declining interest and so IMO the only thing other than TOS and the TOS movies that might get a reference would be TNG - the franchise's true last success.

Uh, yeah. Way to use your personal bias against DS9 to try to claim that TNG was a continuous success. When it fact, the ratings started dropping in the middle of TNG's run. Not to mention the fact that the during its last two seasons, with a few exceptions, TNG was running dry in the idea department. The most hardcore TNGer would admit to that much. So don't try to lay the blame of Trek's decline on DS9. Had TNG ended in five seasons like it should have and laid low for a few years before its first feature film instead of all parties involved being greedy, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

DS9 never got to run alone, either, unlike TNG and VGR. I still think they should've waited instead of over-lapping, but that's the way the apple falls.

Wasn't there a teaser commercial for ENT that included a line something like, "Meet Captain Kirk's hero"? That's canon enough or me! I want a model of the NX-01 in Kirk's quarters at least. Don't overdo it!

I think there might've been a commercial like that.
