Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - First Time Viewer

Season 5 is kind of like a workplace office comedy with supernatural elements, and I love it!

@grendelsbayne I’m going to have to disagree with you about A Hole In The Wall, for reasons.

Obviously by high point I don't mean happy, but that scene, man, that scene. I've had the song 'Home' stuck in my head ever since. Also, the setup for Acker and Denisof's work for the final episodes - a lot of incredible stuff between those two from that point on.

I’ll agree to that. Great acting on both sides.

Soul Purpose

First off, David Boreanez directed this episode. That's cool. It was his directorial debut and he did a pretty good job. This was a pretty good show, setting up things to come in the back half of the season. Still not entirely sure what Eve and Lindsey's game is. At first glance it was to pit Spike and Angel against each other, but then Lindsey sends Spike to help Angel. I wonder if they are doing more bigger picture and just using Angel and Spike to bring down the Senior Partners. Basically, they aren't evil, but they aren't good either. There seems to be a lot of theme of Shades of Grey this season (Even to the point where Angel was annoyed at the notion) so I'm fascinated if that's what we're going to get. I will say the crawler things looked like fatten up jelly fish though. They could have done a better job there.

Damage

I'm not a comic book reader so I'm not sure if I will read the Buffy comics post series. I bring that up because this episode allowed up to get some follow up of the events at the end of Buffy, namely where the scoobie gang went and getting all the Slayers together. We were allowed to see what would happen if someone just became a slayer but couldn't handle the emotional baggage that came with the job. We have Dana who was a psychotic, who when becoming a slayer had this rush of visions and memories that made her even crazier. It was great getting into the psyche of someone like that and this episode told that story really well. I also liked the ending with Spike and Angel connecting on the damage that they had done in their evil vampire days.

The only negative of this episode is I still don't like Andrew. I know he means well but I just find him dumb. It really does feel like this universe refuses to let him go, despite the series already ending.

Your Welcome

I’m thankful for this episode. While it ended on a little bit of a downer with cordy’s death, I thought it was a very optimistic ending as well. Cordy got Angel back on track and helped take care of Lindsey. I guess his role was to have Angel set doubt himself as champion, even though I was thinking something bigger, especially with all the tattoos. I’m also thankful the last memory of Cordelia I have in the Buffy universe was our Cordelia and not some higher power in her body. This was a fantastic episode and a great farewell to really one of the best developed characters in either series. Is she as good as Aeryn Sun? Probably not, but I think my feeling about season 4 might change for the positive now that I have her full contextual arc in my mind.

Why We Fight

There are 10 episodes left in the series and they gave us a pretty boring flashback show. I guess most shows have to do a WWII episode but this one was pretty pointless, especially on the heels of the final Cordelia episode. This one was bad filler.

Smile Time

That might be my favorite episode of the series. I was checking when Team America came out and it was 2004, which made me wonder if this was Angel trying to take advantage of that craze at the time. If not that’s ok because that was hysterical. Puppet Angel, Spike fighting puppet Angel (if there is a great thing about Spike joining the series it was that scene) and then Team Angel led by Puppet Angel with a sword. I think the icing on the cake was Puppet Angel turning into a vampire. I was wondering how that would work and they actually did it. :guffaw:

I don’t remember a crazier episode in either series but Smile Time was awesome.

The Vamping Out scene was a real Fuck, Yeah! moment.
It’s amazing how much they made the puppets emote.

If you have some disposable income, you can have your very own Puppet Angel Vampire

Man I’m really going to miss this thread when it’s done and gone. It’s been a blast reliving the show with you all and talking about it. It’s helped me get through a loss my family has experienced during this time. I’m always checking the thread to see if someone’s posted...it’s just been a real blast and I thank you Tomalak and everyone else for it.

I hope that tomalak301 is going to watch with Firefly, there is a fan theorie that River is a potential/Slayer.

Something tells me that is hard to get. $225 for a puppet Angel Vampire? That's quite a bit of disposable income.

I am too. This has been incredibly fun and it's actualy the most active I've been on this board for a long while.

I've been thinking about rewatching Firefly. It's been so long since I've seen it and I can see who was in Buffy/Angel and also in Firefly. Also, during the whole Jasmine arc, I saw Gina Torres and was like, man Zoe was badass in Firefly. I might want to remind myself on how badass she really was.

It only has 14 almost perfect episodes with great potential and a good movie
