Best battles in Startrek tv series ?

Out of all the different series and time lines what episodes have the best, longest starship vs starship battles ?

The longest TV fight is probably the submarine battle between the NCC-1701 and the Romulan bird of prey in "Balance of Terror." Some 75% of the episode is the Enterprise chasing the BoP. (If you count the standoff between the Fesarius and the NCC-1701 in "Corbomite Maneuver" as a battle, it probably competes with it for length.) In the movies, the fight between Reliant and Enterprise in the Wrath of Khan lasts about an hour from Reliant's first shot to its destruction, and although there is a period of disengagement, it is certainly best interpreted as a single event.

The best is probably the Klingon assault on DS9. But any of the big fleet actions in DS9 will vie for the title.

The best battle commander hands down is Captain Kirk, in Balance of Terror and Journey to Babel, he employs tactics, experience and psychology to defeat his emenies. Enemies who are either more heavier armed or much faster then his ship was. Similar display of knowledge was used against Khan in TWOK.

Sisko. Regardless of which "attack pattern" he orders, they're all the same, a frontal assault. He relays on his ship's speed and firepower to carry the day, not his own abilities. The only clear example of superior tactics that come to mind during DS9 is during Tears of the Prophets when the Carrdassian small battle stations fire on their own power source. But that's a tactic of Chief O'Brien, not Sisko's. In fact Sisko wasn't even on the bridge at the time.

when the nx01 uses the grappler to rip a nacelle off a klingon ship. that bit alone was awesome

The most spectacular is probably DS9 Sacrifice of Angels, but I think the best is DS9 The Die is Cast. That one had real tension and the scenes on board the various ships were excellent. It was more than just an action sequence.

Yesterday's Enterprise had a great battleship scene from the bridge point of view. The action was slower, but they had the entire military atmosphere down to a pat.

The very last scene from Call to Arms where the Defiant and the Rotarran meet a huge Allied fleet was very impressive-not a battle scene, but it made you say, "yeah!"

And of course, Sacrifice of Angels, like Pemmer said, "spectacular".

ENT "Azati Prime": the NX-01 got its butt kicked, but it was an incredible attack that left me speechless as the ship drifted helplessly in space as closing credits appeared on the screen.

ENT "Countdown": the pursuit of the weapon with their new Xindi allies was a pretty good fight.

ENT: The dogfight over NYC in Stormfront II was pretty cool.

I must admit to giving out a Yee-Ha when the Enterprise de-cloaked and fired on the Klingons in All Good Things.

Top three are from DS9... "The Die Is Cast", "Sacrifice of Angels" and "What You Leave Behind" all featured some very nice battle scenes which were done remarkably well for their time.

As someone has already pointed out, though, TOS probably takes the cake for longest fights. And it's also nice to watch Kirk employ some real tactics, not just Sisko's 'evasive pattern Delta!'

Enterprise had some great ones, I was particularly fond of a lot of the 'NX-01 gets even more screwed' that was going on toward the end of the third season. And Voyager -- why has no one mentioned Voyager yet? Some of those Borg confrontations were very lively.

The Next Generation was the most actively prevent-conflict of all the shows, so while that's a great theme, it also limits the amount of things I can think of for it offhand. I'd say by extension of its very theme, the best space battles were when the Enterprise-D pulled a trump card. When two Klingon ships uncloak beside her, for example. Or when she uncloaks in "All Good Things", like the poster above me just mentioned.

I thought the final scenes from Voyager's "Yeah of Hell" were pretty good, as were the battles with 8472 in "Scorpion 1 and 2).

One of the shortest (and I thought funniest) battle scene was from TNG's "The Wounded" where the Phoenix blows away the Cardassian warship despite their shield prefix being compromised.

For TNG, Best of Both Worlds.... from the Moment Picard said "We've engaged the Borg" to when the cube blew up above Earth..... lots of tactics, thinking, and out witting was done of both sides of the fight.

DS9 could be just about every Dominion/Cardassian/Klingon Conflict they had on the show.

Voyager had a good battle with the Herogen and Hologram ship.... some decent strategy on that

The Voyager episode 'Dragon's Teeth' had a pretty sweet battle.

But the gold standard for awesome televised Trek Space Battles will always be the battle to retake DS9 in 'Sacrifice of Angels'. JAW-DROPPING.

ENT Twilight was a great battle. It was Humanity's last stand.
ENT In a Mirror Darkly, when the USS Defiant tears up a Vulcan Combat Cruiser (which was the most powerful ship in ENT's time)

TOS The Doomsday Machine. When the USS Enterprise and USS Constellation engage the planet killer device.

TNG The Best of Both Worlds. A Borg Cube was the closest thing to a Doomsday Machine in the 24th Century. While we didn't actually get to see the Battle of Wolf 359 in this episode, the site of the Federation Fleet completely wiped out was jaw dropping. We knew a Borg Cube was strong, but the entire fleet against one ship, and Starfleet still lost?

DS9 The Way of the Warrior, The Sacrifice of Angels, What You Leave Behind, as already mentioned above.

VOY Year of Hell. Voyager didn't just repair itself the next day. It was under constant attack and the hull was barely recognizable.

My favourite battle has to be when the Ent-D sacrifices herself in Yesterday's Enterprise in order to restore the timeline.

However, I also liked the battle where the Defiant is badly damaged and the bridge is in flames as Jem'Hadar troops board the ship in The Search.
