There has been a little bit of news floating around the web as of late. I am just wonder if you folks here would want to see a third X-files movie.

I wouldn't mind seeing another X-Files movie, although admittedly I still haven't gotten around to seeing the 2nd one. Love the 1st one though.

I thought the second movie was okay, but if they do a third movie, do something, I dunno, more INTERESTING. Don't get me wrong, but the second one was alright, but it just felt like a bloated episode. And not even one of the better episodes. We need something epic, especially since 2012 is coming up (I believe that's when the mythology about the Black Oil said the world would end).

The second movie was more just about Mulder & Scully. I sorta liked it, but would like to see more of a paranormal kind of angle in the next film.

Sure I'd love to see another X-Files movie.

And long as it didn't suck as hard as the last one.

:scream:

I heard news about it FOX came out and said its up to Chris not them. The wordlwide total in the end saved the 2nd film and DVD sales probably weren't great but tacked some more $$$ on at the end. Chris Carter did state any 3rd movie would be about the 2012 invasion though I wonder what sort of budget he would get to play with.

We need a 3rd move to end on a high note because the 2nd movie was AWFUL it was CSI Files not X Files.

A third movie could be far more successful than I Want To Believe. My suggestions:
  • Plot: There must be a large-scale threat.
  • Mulder: He should be back in the FBI. I still have trouble with the fact that Mulder wasn't vindicated and offered his old job in I Want To Believe.
  • One or two "big-name" co-stars should be cast to draw extra attention to the film. Call it stunt-casting if you like.
  • The film should have a good release date (unlike I Want To Believe, which came out one week after The Dark Knight).

I'm sure that The X-Files still has franchise value, but if there is another movie maybe it should be released in the Fall. Better not to swim with the big sharks.

The biggest problem with X-Files 2 was that it separated Mulder and Scully on their own far too often. That, and the story itself was, essentially, of the "monster-of-the-week" variety. Return Mulder and Scully to a true partnership and offer a tale that really delves into the mythology of the series and X-Files 3 will be a hit.

I liked I Want To Believe. In some ways it was nice to see a small character piece. I found that part to be enjoyable, but the actual main story was definitely lacking. If they do a third film the stakes need to be higher. A nice balance between the two would be great.

I thought I Want to Belive was okay but was expecting something more. I want a true X-Files movie, something along the lines of Fight the Future but better. I also agree with Bad Bishop's requirements. I also read somewhere that Fox left it up to Chris Carter about another film.

I saw this on other sites but didn't think it that newsworthy. It was essentially a standard reporter question to Anderson on if she thought a third would happen.
It's just like when Mel Gibson was always being asked about a 5th Lethal Weapon, Willis another Die Hard etc etc.

I too was let down by I Want To Believe. It was too much an obvious episode just on the big screen. Nothing about it shouted "see me in the theater" like the first one did. I'd like a third to also be about the 2012 mythology as Carter has indicated it would be should it get done.

I hope Mulder says "I saw some motherfucking aliens on a motherfucking plane!" in XF3.

I'd like to see another one, sure. I Want To Believe was nice for the character stuff between Mulder and Scully, but the plot was kind of ho-hum (and I personally found the paranormal aspect to be a little lacking). The scope was decidedly unambitious for a feature film -- it felt more like a TV movie. Overall, not bad, but it could have been much better.

If they make a 3rd film, one would presume it would be about the planned 2012 alien invasion. Carter and co. would ideally need a fair budget to pull that off well, and after the disappointing returns for IWTB, I'm a bit skeptical about them getting the necessary funds. Still, I'd like to see it happen.

I want to Believe was a great character piece, I didn't care that the plot was bog standard it was just a means to an end. It was beautifully shot, very atmospheric and Duchovny and Anderson were both great.

Now i'd like to see a pumping action packed 2012 invasion story.

Any new X-Files movie has to be the 2012 invasion storyline. I'd like to see it happen in such a way that you believe they may stop it but it happens anyway and the whole world comes to end.

I agree with everything in this post.

I really liked the second movie for what it was...but if there is a third, I think you really, really need to have Mulder and Scully back in the FBI. I would not be interested in seeing another film where they are on the outside looking in, especially if it deals with something earth-shattering like the 2012 invasion.

Oh, and more Walter Skinner please! :)
