A True Starfighter (re: F-104 request...)

Ptrope

Agitator
Admiral
Not wanting to take over the other thread (here), I've decided to start my own for my little excursion into madness.

The question was posed for an F-104 model - my brain went into space. Now that I'm there, I just may stay and finish it ;).

And for those ortho fans out there, I've done .. an ortho! :)

Like the Ikran, I've used the Mirror Universe as an ... ahem justification ... for such a radical and, frankly, illogical design. Though I have to admit, whether it makes sense or not, I think it's darn purty!

And I just couldn't resist playing with it in a faux book cover:

I don't think it's an illogical design at all. The era to which it looks like it belongs was marked by hostilities with th Klingon Empire. The Klingons wouldn't hesitate to take battle into the atmosphere of a planet, especially if they were trying to conquer said planet. Since Klingon ships are more air-worthy than Federation ships and even Federation shuttles, it makes sense for a streamlined fighter to be stationed planetside or on starbases in orbit. Your Starfighter is absolutely beautiful and I can imagine a squadron taking down a Bird of Prey in atmo.

After making a desktop model of it, it was just a hop, skip and a jump to showing off the box ... also, I've redone the nose cone to something more solid, with channels through which the component deflector beams outward; I've also been detailing the nacelles out.

Sweet!
Naturally, this popped into my head:

Welcome aboard. You've been recruited by the Federation to defend the frontier against Kor and the Klingon Armada.

Whipped up a comparison shot of Javelin with the 989' Crossbow-class Genoese. I've also added a photorp launcher under the bow, and several phaser emplacements fore, center and aft.

And ... I'm starting to engineer the model for printing; with luck, we'll be able to cast this and make it available as a real model :D. Heck, I'll just be happy to get one good clean one out of the printer :).
