A True Starfighter (re: F-104 request...)

Weapons, yes, that is exactly what the Javelin was missing!:techman:

Now, if only I could tell where the torpedo tubes are...

What an interesting design. Great model work, and I enjoy seeing the different perspectives and evolution of the design.

The sleek feel of the ship is what I really like. It has a very classic feel to it, that fits in to the overall aesthetic of the world.

Also, for some reason, it reminds me a bit of the Lady Luck from Star Wars. That ship always felt very Trek-like to me.

Keep up the good work!

Whipped up a comparison shot of Javelin with the 989' Crossbow-class Genoese. I've also added a photorp launcher under the bow, and several phaser emplacements fore, center and aft.

And ... I'm starting to engineer the model for printing; with luck, we'll be able to cast this and make it available as a real model :D. Heck, I'll just be happy to get one good clean one out of the printer :).

Awesome.

I'm interested to see how your 3D printed model comes out... it looks like you could probably do it in about 4 or 5 parts.

For you, JES ...

Thanks!:D

Wow, and she even has quite a few ventral phaser banks. You know that I approve!:techman:

Me, I would've just made the F-104 a starfighter, and called it a day.

You on the other hand turned her into a heavy corvette.

Glad you like it, JES!

Learned a new trick in Poser: isometric renderings, using its orthographic cameras and rotating the model appropriately (duh!). Combined with its "toon outline" rendering option, it's a great way to make model kit assembly instructions!

It's interesting that you made this a starship instead of a fighter. Do you think you could do a version that's fighter-sized? Sling 4 fighter photons under the wings (2 either side) and phasers in the same location as the guns on the F-104 this is inspired by. Everything else (warp engines, nav deflector, etc.) can stay the same, but the top bridge module can be a single window cockpit. At that scale, it looks like it would be just under 3 times the length of a TOS shuttlecraft and about 50% wider. Still small enough to fit two inside a Connie shuttlebay.

All that said, it still works for me as a starship (heavy corvette). Can you imagine this monster laying the smackdown in atmosphere? It looks to be the size of a heavy airliner!

Thanks! I wish that were the case, but so far, it looks like it's going to be 30-35 parts, keeping in mind the intent to make this usable as a master for casting and reproduction. At the same scale as the original AMT models, it's going to be about 17" long, much longer than my print area, and to cast the fuselage, esp., without needing support material, I'm going to split it lengthwise, other than the nosecone, then into 3 lengths, and print all the 'half pipe' sections standing on their ends (I might rejoin a couple of them before casting them, though). If it were just a print job, I could probably do it right with about 10-15 parts. ;)
