Scrubs

Wasn't it the ad break where the audience assumes the person that has died is the old guy that JD was looking after, when it turns out to be Ben.

Isn't it the finale tonight? I managed to watch 'My Chief Concern' this morning (possibly best episode since the break), so I'll probably get the last episodes tomorrow. I'm excited, this season in general has been a bit of an upswing in quality compared to the past couple of seasons, so hopefully I'll be left with a tear in my eye amongst much laughter.

And I've decided that the show should end now, whilst it's on top.

Yes, tonight at 8pm is the one hour (probably series) finale. Too bad it's happening with zero promotion and they stuck the pen-ultimate episode on a different night thanks to the President's Press Conference. Poor Scrubs.

I'm currently watching Scrubs from the start with my girlfriend (into S3 right now). We'd seen episodes here and there in the past and loved the show. So we really wanted to catch up.

Well, we just watched an episode tonight which is probably one of my absolute favorites. It's one of those examples where the show manages the IMHO incredible task of being extremely funny as well as extremely touching and moving at the same time.

I'm talking about "My Screwup". I'd seen it before, but I'd actually forgotten the way it ended. It only hit me in that moment when Dr. Cox is on the graveyard talking to Ben and J.D. walks up to him and asks him where he thinks he is.

That moment when you realize that Ben has been dead trough most of the episode is just incredibly powerful, I think. It really speaks for the show and its creators that they're able to pull off stuff like this that many 'serious' shows wouldn't do half was well, I think.

I haven't seen the later seasons yet. But suffice it to say, I think the show is absolutely amazing when it's at its best.

P.S.: I was thinking about Ben and for how long he's dead in the episode. Is it basically from the point onwards when he doesn't have his camera on him anymore?
Yeah, My Screwup is just an absolutely amazing episode. Even though I've seen it quite a few times already, it still breaks my heart every time I watch it. It's Scrubs (and TV in general) at it's best.

One of my 2 favorite episodes of this show.

I also love My Life in Four Cameras (season 4), which shares some similarities with My Screwup.

Have fun with the show, you've got a lot of goodness coming up.

Well, I missed the first 12 minutes of it. So far, pretty boring. This is the finale I was hoping to NOT see; the one I don't give a damn about, lacks emotion, jokes don't work, and everything feels contrived and at times forced.

Anyone watch those Interns webisodes? I thought they were passable, if they wanted to develop a Scrubs spinoff for next year.

God am going to miss this show, am watching the 17th episode and got to Ted picturing himself having sex joke  love it.

I missed about four or five episodes this year (and some from the last few seasons) can someone spoil me on what happened with his brother, Dan?

Well the show has ended. The final episode was just alright until that last ten minutes, which suddenly became really bittersweet and moving. When he walked down that hallway and FIFTY characters from the past appeared for split second cameos, that was amazing. And then when we saw the future of their lives with him watching it on a movie screen, that was really moving. Sad song for it too. I shall truly miss the greatest bromance of all time, JD and Turk. My god those two were all over each other in tonight's episode :D And we finally learn the Janitor's name! GLENN! or is it TOMMY! I guess we'll never know :p

Yeah, the hallway of memories was a nice touch. Well, either way it looks like the show could go on if they just chalk this up to the end of the "JD era". I wouldn't mind if they tried to keep the show going for a year just to see how it goes.

Well that was awesome. Like all good series finales though, I'm kind of bummed out. It was a pretty good episode up until the end, when it turned into gold. I'm really going to miss these people.

...And I'll be furious if they do more of it without them.

I'll admit it, I started crying when he walked down that hallway. All of the memories of this show just came flooding back.

I would call you a Big Girl's Blouse, but my eyes were also en-moistured at that point. I...think I had...something in my eye? Yep. Something in my eye... That's what it was...

Very nice ending. Kept generally to the tone of the normal episodes, still got to do the "say goodbye and move on" thing, and the Imagination version of what happens to the characters after we stop watching was very nice to see. Doesn't try to "end" the series with some big moment or other, just moves on, while giving a glimpse of what "might" happen to the characters later on. Nice moment to go out on. :)

Loved it. It's rare enough that good shows even GET a finale these days, that I'll take this one as a gift. I got misty too in the final goodbyes, and barely noticed that Turk and Eliott were barely there through the whole last quarter of the show (save the film flashforwards, where they weren't heard).

Okay, I've got everything released on DVD, but even I can't remember all the people in the hallway scene. Let's see who I can pick out (with a little help from Wikipedia), and see who can fill in the gaps:

- J.D.'s brother Dan

- The Todd

- Alex (J.D.'s girlfriend in season one, whom he promised he'd call again)

- Gift Shop Girl (Gift Shop Woman / Wife)

- Jill Tracy ("My Lunch" et. al., my last truly favorite episode)

- Mrs. Wilk ("My Cabbage" et. al.)

- Nurse Roberts (Whatever happened to Shirley, anyway?)

- Familiar brunette doctor

- Ted & Gooch & the Worthless Peons (Boing fwip!)

- Rex (the chubby asian intern who looks remarkably like me)

- Cabbage, failed intern turned Coffee Bucks guy

- Mrs. Miller (aka Stephanie D'abruzzo, from "My Musical" - in the same dress!)

- Broken penis guy?

- Colin Hay (perennial musical guest)

- Dr. Wen (where the hell has he been, and is he proud that Turk finally got his job?)

- Lloyd Slawski (aka Mike Schwartz - delivery guy, EMT, writer for the show)

- Lady (sans Janitor)

- Keith

- Dr. Mickhead

- Bald doctor with glasses around his neck (plastic surgeon, maybe?)

- Musical heart failure patient from "My Philosphy" ("Waiting for my real life to begin...", my FIRST truly favorite episode)

- Popcorn intern from a couple years ago (introduced with Keith)

- Troy the cafeteria guy

- Randall the janitor

- Slagathor (Debbie)

- Boon (male intern often seen with Slagathor)

- Almost-fired-due-to-Cox Coffee Nurse

- Leonard, the security guard best known for his big giant afro

- Gloria, who had a baby with Leonard

- Dr. Zeltzer (who oddly never got it on with the Todd)

- Brad Pitt lookalike doctor? (Can't rememeber when he was on, but he had a different hairstyle...)

- Black orderly (never got his name - set standin for Donald Faison)

- Mrs. Tanner (season one "My Old Lady")

- Dr. Seymour Beardface'

- Jimmy, the overly touchy intern

- Dr. Coleman "Colonel Doctor" Slawski (apparently Lloyd's dad)

- Unknown person in grey (you barely see them and not their face, after Colonel Doctor and before Josephine)

- Dr. Lonnie

- Josephine the intern of squeaky voice

- Snoop Dogg Attending (Ronald)

- Dr. Jeffrey Steadman (aka Daniels from "Enterprise")

- another janitor (?)

- Dr. Hooch (who IS crazy)

The janitor taking down the sign at the end is of course show creator Bill Lawrence, which I expected but find odd as he was already seen as the priest who married the Janitor and Lady earlier this year). I also found out that the same actress played Lady and the singing doctor from "My Philosophy".

Whew! Who'd I miss?

Mark

You should be really happy ABC picked the show up to end it, because NBC was just going to screw it after 7 seasons.

This is my problem with the idea of renwing Scrubs for another season. The show is J.D. Its J.D.'s story of his relationship with the people around him. Sure, the episodes without Braff worked okay this season, but if you're going to take J.D. out of the equation completely, then put a new title on it, call it a spinoff and go from there. Don't call it Scrubs because it won't be Scrubs.

Honestly though, we're losing Braff, and probably Lawrence (but apparently he's having second thoughts now). The contracts have expired on all of the lead actors. Judy Reyes has indicated she wants to move on. Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, John McGinley and Neil Flynn all have pilots in development. Assuming all goes well for everyone (it, of course, won't), we have one actor who will be available to return: Ken Jenkins. But still, bringing Kelso back after his departure last night would be cheap.

I love Scrubs. I have since the beginning and I stuck with it through some very rough patches. Last night's finale was a fitting send-off to a relatively good eight-year run. I'm not saying I wouldn't necessarily give a J.D.-less Scrubs season 9 a chance, but I think its better if it ends. ABC needs to not be greedy and just end it on the note it was meant to.

Fantastic ending, the future movie was a special moment. Sad to see Scrubs end.
