Cyberpunk 2077

Yeah, the crux of the issue is that it really was more of a Next-gen game that they tried to pass off as a functional game on last-gen hardware. Even now, I don't think there's a native version for next-gen hardware, but once there is, I assume most of the problems will go away. Most of the issues I'd wager, stem from the game engine not getting sufficient resources to properly function. And by releasing early, they got into a situation where most of their playerbase were on older hardware. But they likely had known and should have made a better effort to have it play better on that hardware. I heard that their main version was the PC version, which makes sense as that's they were most used to, and that console versions of Witcher 2 on XBox had terrible performance issues as well, to the point that some have called Witcher 3 a fluke. So, they did have a history of poor console performance before Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 was a trainwreck when they released it and they had to do a lot of work to make it playable on consoles. I got the Game of the Year edition, but would've been pissed if I had bought the game day one.

Listening to an interview the other day, they make it sound like they were trying something new in Cyberpunk 2077 by streaming in assets as the game progressed. Which sounds like something where an SSD would be needed vs. a mechanical HDD. I wonder if a base console with an SSD would have better luck running the game?

Yep, true. It needed a lot of work and many patches to get it to the point people were raving about it.

Hmm, that's a good point. I think last-gen were still using HDDs rather than SSDs. But theoretically, streaming assets aren't even a new thing, as it's been around for a long time. Unreal Engine games such Mass Effect were doing it, and so have the idTech engines, but the disadvantage is that if textures aren't loading in quick enough, you get texture pop-in where it can take awhile for textures to appear, which sometimes also bogs the game down. The original Rage was plagued with this issue.

I'm playing this game right now, and you know, perhaps because I waited for the patches, I'm quinte enjoying it!

I’ve been away from it for a while. STO and Car Mechanic Simulator have been taking the bulk of my gaming time lately.

For a different genre...thry High Fleet

All of this is done from a series of cockpit screens featuring CRT-style monitors and an intimidating set of tactile controls that must be pushed, manipulated and pulled to work the flagship's massive hulking frame forward. The various buttons, levers and controls make the ships feel delightfully low-tech and unique despite being gargantuan floating battle platforms. These systems are demonstrated in a lengthy gameplay video, and these can appear seem overwhelming to the untrained eye.

Got the PS4 version yesterday and it runs very well from the internal SSD on my base PS4...

Since the game recently went into 2.0 i've re-downloaded it to Steam and will check it out again from the start even though i have sunk 30+ hours into it in my first attempt ( but never completed the main story). Seems like they really worked on the game and just playing the intro mission again showed how aweseme this game is.

I will definitely dive back in once i finish a previous game.

Since i'm a huge Idris Elba fan chances are very high i'll be getting PL too ;)

I've played the game in spurts with several restarts but never got much further than the intro. It's always been interrupted by some hotly anticipated new release that took my attention.

I'm currently on a Horizon Forbidden West replay before doing the Burning Shores DLC, then it'll be full steam ahead on this + Phantom Liberty.

Given the rave reviews and the 2.0 overhaul, I'm glad I put it off till now.

I played this for a while a few months after it had come out but then dropped it. I might jump into it again but man huge install size.

I put this down again after blowing through one playthrough, then starting another and hitting up as many sidequests as I could so I have almost nothing but main story when Phantom Liberty dropped but then Baldur's Gate 3 happened and I'm probably realistically not playing Cyberpunk again until next year.

From what I've read it's best to start Phantom Liberty with a new character anyway and work it in to the main story progression. You can technically do it with a prior character but it makes more sense to start over because everything from character skills to loot to side stories is either changed or tweaked by Phantom Liberty. It just makes more sense to start from scratch and since you're doing Baldur's Gate 3 that gives you extra time away to kind of start fresh if you want to.

I had started a 2nd playthrough a few months ago but then realized that it would probably be best to just wait on Phantom Liberty so when I wrap up Starfield (which will be soon bc I have been intentionally dragging it out) I'll be starting over. I have a save right now which just covers the first job but I'll prob just start from scratch because of all of the changes.

After that I have Spider Man 2 on the agenda and Baldur's Gate has to fit in there somewhere too. And I'm very much wanting to check out Lies of P. Seems like after a really long drought a ton of good games are all coming out at once.

Yes, you have some different side quests and different conversation options

I've only ever done Corpo. It seems to make the most sense for the main story. I think my V. would find Johnny a lot more self-righteous than he already is if I was RP'ng a street kid. My Street Kid would see him as an entitled Rock Star playing at being one of us and probably will if I ever try that route.
