Cyberpunk 2077

Well PC seems to be running OK in 9 hours of play so far only one crash to desktop (knock on wood) and hoping this continues, that they are patching PC in regular doses is kind of a good sign I guess. They messed up on consoles big time however.

I didn't know about XIII - but I've got the old one on disk somewhere)

I played it recently and it looks absolutely amazing with modern resolutions. Still very playable today, which begs the question why a remake was needed in the first place. They went in a completely wrong direction by making the textures realistic.

I was looking forward to this game for a long time and had it preordered about six months ago.

I played it for hours but it was so glitchy. The game doesn't seem to like me driving around the city, or combat in certain areas.

I was stuck on one early part of the game due to a glitch where weapons disappearing from my inventory at the part where I have to shoot down the drones in the car. I was basically trying to fight them with some angry glares. After reading into it, I had to start the whole mission from scratch to stop the bug, and just make sure that I had guns on me before I got into the car that time.

And then on a later mission, where I had to climb through a window and do something with the electric supply, my favourite glutch happened. Any time I try to climb through the window, I'm flung back really far away from the house I'm trying to enter. :wtf:

I decided to cut my losses and quit the game because it's zapping the fun out of it. I'll wait for an and start over but what the hell were they thinking of releasing it in this state?

Pressure from investors to get a product out.

They are up to patch 1.1 now so most issues seem to be getting fixed.

I noticed they just pushed out a large update on my Xbox a couple of days ago. Haven’t tried it, but I’m sure it’s worth the long download.

That's strange, I haven't noticed any updates since the one I had on opening day.

There have been at least two that I know of. The Day 1 patch and the one that got pushed down a couple of days ago. Don’t know what platform you’re using, but if you don’t have auto-updates turned on you’ll need to check them manually.

I have Xbox as well. I thought I had automatic updates enabled but I'll double check.

Thanks for the heads up. :techman:

Some people on Reddit say that 1.1 adds bugs of its own, though I can't say. (Still thinking of upgrading before I buy so I might end up getting the GOTY version whenever)

I didn't have major bugs yet on the PC, just smaller graphics glitches and a few small gameplay bugs that i could solve myself with a quick Google search.

My favorite glitch though is when i ride a motorcycle sometimes my character model suddenly appears standing naked on the motorcycle with arms stretched out - it only happens for a second but it's funny everytime it happens

Other than that the game really is awesome - i'm partway through the second act and the story so far is really great. Currently i paused the story missions and am focusing on improving my character through side missions and being an inofficial crime fighter ( easy kill em all missions to boost Street Cred and Level up while making some money). Be careful though doing missions too early in highler level areas - a single punk will lay you out with a single shot.

Yeah those punks are bad..... I was down near the sewer drains and just walking around a bend to get back to street level and got jumped by 4 guys and killed, attacks can even happen unprovoked.

Yeah - gang members will always attack if you get too close, never mind if you ever had beef with them or not.

However you do see the agression build up in the icon over their heads, so if you're not ready for a fight just back away quick or get out of sight.

Justice system if funny though - you can kill a civilian in front of the cops, get a warrant and then get away fast out of sight, lay low for a minute or so and the warrant is gone. It's like the justice system is going "Eh.. too much effort so why bother?" :)

Side missions can be fun though - came across a guy who, uhm, modified his gentlemen's equipment with faulty cyberware and had to be driven to the nearest Ripperdoc. After i arrived he jumped out of the car and initially "stiffed" me for payment - he called later and paid but the mission was just funny.

I'm currently cleaning up crime scenes in the low level parts of town and am too well armored and armed for these levels ( they are actually classed as Very Low Risk when compared to my level) - it is actually boring since i can just loot slowly while they're still shooting at me and doing very little damage whereas one burst from my assault rifle kills a ganger.

The whole map is a very pretty map full of colour and light and such, have to say they did a great job making it feel like a world to explore. I am yet to find a joytoy, not sure I even want to try

I did and it's what you expected when visiting a prostitute - a short sequence of a near naked lady doing stuff ( i guess teenage boys might get a kick out of it).

One mission though had me visit a sort of brothel, where you have to investigate something and ask a sexworker some questions ( it's a storyline mission) - you get the option to choose a male or female sexworker (whom you need to interrogate) and i mixed up the names and booked the male prostitute  Decided to roll with it instead of reloading to see what happens.

One thing that i really liked is how real the city feels - there's tons of pedestrians and cars moving about of all shapes and sizes ( though of course there's only a few templates that get spiced up with different colors/clothes but still) and the regions vary tremendously from slums to high tech including a feeling of a megacity with tall skyscrapers and small houses.

No wonder it takes years to make such a game.

Oh yeah that shows. It's a fantastic game world. Not sure why it's getting so much hate. You can't really blame the devs when they were pushed to an early release so of course there were going to be problems on consoles and PC. Push something out early expect bugs and problems, but it was slammed by reviewers due to all that.

Doesn’t matter how fantastic the game world is if it is unplayable. Technical competence is an important part of any game.

Yeah, the crux of the issue is that it really was more of a Next-gen game that they tried to pass off as a functional game on last-gen hardware. Even now, I don't think there's a native version for next-gen hardware, but once there is, I assume most of the problems will go away. Most of the issues I'd wager, stem from the game engine not getting sufficient resources to properly function. And by releasing early, they got into a situation where most of their playerbase were on older hardware. But they likely had known and should have made a better effort to have it play better on that hardware. I heard that their main version was the PC version, which makes sense as that's they were most used to, and that console versions of Witcher 2 on XBox had terrible performance issues as well, to the point that some have called Witcher 3 a fluke. So, they did have a history of poor console performance before Witcher 3.
