You are the casting director

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Imagine you could re-cast a major role in any Star Trek series.

Or that one-episode memorable character.

Or a recurring guest star character.

Even a character who was only ever mentioned, not seen - but enough was said about them that you feel like you know them.

Or an actor who should have guest starred in a role/story which was never written.

Or what if you could cast someone as a member of a specific alien species? Who would you choose and why?

First, think seriously, like a GOOD casting director.

Second, as this is sci-fi, you are not limited by time and space. You could cast somebody who wasn't born when the series/movie came out, or even someone who had already died by then.

It would have been a big-budget, high-profile, all-star cinema adaptation/expansion of the TOS universe, produced in the sixties, and starring Steve McQueen, Sydney Poitier, Yul Brynner, Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren, and Lee Marvin.

What spurred me to make this thread was the now-locked "Guest starring Lucille Ball" thread. Someone said that Gale Gordon would have been interesting to see on Trek too. I agree, BTW.

Orson Welles as a Romulan Fleet Admiral, maybe a promoted Tomalak.
Claude Raines as either the head of Section 31, or maybe Gul Dukat.
We ARE going to find someplace for Ava Gardner! hmmm...maybe the female Changeling, but sometimes, damnit she WILL look like Ava...
Bing Crosby as a starship captain, really, the man was much more than a singer...he could act...had presence...

Eva Green should've graced STAR TREK with her presence. If not in ENTERPRISE, then, certainly, in STAR TREK '09. She's French, you know ...

*Naveen Andrews as Khan Noonian Singh in Star Trek Into Darkness
*Some upcoming actor named Joel Kirk as the Kelvin Timeline version of Clark Terrell of the USS Reliant.
*Depending on how Luke Cage turns out: Mike Colter as Capt. Ben Sisko in an updated version of Deep Space Nine.
*Hailee Steinfeld as a Kelvin Timeline version of the half-Vulcan/half-Romulan Lt. Saavik.

Actors who should have been on TOS:
Stephanie Powers as a redskirt lieutenant in a featured role. My God she would have been glorious in that uniform!
Earl Holliman as a space-crazy young officer infected with the Psi-2000 disease.
Robert Conrad as a tough-as-nails starship captain in philosophical conflict with Kirk that comes to blows.
Young Yoeman Susan Dey on her first mission.
Young Yoeman Dawn Wells on her first mission.
Science Department head Lt. Dianna Rigg.
David Carradine as some criminal space-trader causing trouble. Or a space monk.

Larry David as any character would be gold. Obviously, he would just play himself.

On a serious note, if Woody Harrelson could make it on ST: Discovery that would be incredible.

And I want Margot Robbie as a recurring character, either a yeoman in a short skirt or she can just be communications officer with her beautiful, natural Australian accent.

EDIT: Actually, put her on the bridge in ANY position, up to and including captain, in a TOS miniskirt where I can see her bod, and CBS can just have all my money.

Okay, I get that this is all sorts of wrong. But it is so, so right...

I'm assuming McQeen is Kirk, but who are the others? Or is it just different characters in the TOS universe?

Casting a big star as Carol Marcus in the 80's, like Diane Keaton or Audrey Hepburn (just a couple years older than Shatner). She's supposed to be "the one that got away" for Kirk after all. Bibi Besch is still good, though.

Orson Welles as a buffoonish Klingon at some point in the 80's, either in Star Trek III, a re-imagined Star Trek IV with the Klingons out for revenge on Kirk, or on early TNG.
