We've got a Sequel!

if this good news, however lets wait for Star Trek to be a hit, before we consider a sequel, the biggest question is Will Nimoy be in it?

We have had enough Nimoy, time for a change, William Shatner needs to be in the next one.

If this movie makes bank at the box, Shatner does not need to be in the next one.

Whether he will be or not depends on whether he likes what the writers come up with; it will not be because the franchise "needs" him to shore up the reboot.

Will Shatner be in it?

I certainly hope so. They will alienate the fan base even more if he isn't.

Correction: alienate a small bunch of narrow-minded, canon whores who can't get over their disturbing obsession with William Shatner.

Shatner in Star Trek 2? No thanks. There was a very good reason he was left out of this film. Nimoy is passing the torch, any AbramsTrek after this should let this current cast stand by themselves.

Being right IS narrow minded and I don't mind..2+2=4 which is correct and pretty narrow minded not to accept anything different than the right thing..That "small bunch" you refer to can make or break a franchise..you'll see.

As much as I like William Shatner, I don't think it's such a good idea to put him into Star Trek XII (in case the movie will ever be made, that is).
The new offshoot of the franchise should stand on its own feet from now on. It would have to be an extremely (!!!) good reason within a possible storyline to make Bill's casting necessary - and 'just because' is not a good reason at all.
And then again... what's next? Star Trek XIII with George Takei? Star Trek IV with Nichelle Nichols?

Which fans are we worried about alienating with the exclusion of The Shatner? The ones paying to see a movie without him or the ones divided and dying off at such a rate, the last Trek series was cancelled by its own network?

Seems like Paramount is more concerned about bringing in new fans than keeping the purists on life support.

I'll agree that a "small bunch" can definitely break a franchise. The "small bunch" certainly didn't do much to keep Enterprise going or make Nemesis successful. The "small bunch" is the problem.

I had kind of already assumed that they were going to follow the play book to the end and make at least a trilogy.

The Klingons deserve a rebirth as the real villains of the TREK universe, especially in Kirk's era...rebooted timeline or not. With the more modern makeup taken up even one more notch they could be supremely intimidating and even scary again. Remember the first glimpse we all got of the new forehead makeup in TMP? How creepy and even vampire-like those Klingons were? A ship full of truly scary-looking warriors who were badass enough to take on a billions-of-kilometers-wide energy cloud that SHOT BACK?:p

THOSE Klingons. We need them back.

Oh, I can not wait to see what we're going to see where that small bunch is concerned.

The hard-core Shatner fanbase that continues to go on about this couldn't make or break the weekend receipts at an automobile show. :guffaw:

#1 Time travel attempts to change history, new timeline set up

#2 War/invasion threat from another power like the Klingons

#3 Peace treaty with said power threatened by internal divisions within Federation; civil disruption threatens to splinter UFP; alliance saved at last minute?
