Spoilers Vixen - Web Series

I was going to wait until the entire season was out, but decided to watch the first 3 episodes tonight.

Strange how some of the language in both season 1 and season 2 would be questionable on the live-action shows, but seems to be fine in an animated format.

IIRC, Katie Cassidy's Black Canary should be showing up before the final episode.

I am curious about that too. I have watched all the episodes as they were posted and it never occurred to me that there was anything in them that could not be broadcast.

What do you mean by "questionable"?

Ahh, I see. Well, a web series wouldn't be subject to the same censorship as a commercial-network series. Look at how much more graphic the Netflix Marvel shows are compared to Agents of SHIELD.

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that they had plans to air it as a special on the CW at some point?

Episode 5 and the finale are now up. A lot of Arrowverse guest stars, but they aren't very well-utilized given the brief running time. And Mari's own storyline doesn't have a great payoff, I feel.

I do like the way the show handles the visualization and use of Vixen's powers. It's much more imaginative and visually striking than how her grandmother is shown to use her powers on Legends. I hope future directors there will draw more on this show for inspiration.

It's weird how many team-ups there are in this season -- Vixen teams up with Flash and Firestorm in Monument Point in the first episode, then with Black Canary and Atom in Star City and Detroit in the story proper, and then with them, Flash, and Green Arrow for a mission to Coast City at the end. There's not nearly as much crossover in the live-action shows most of the time. And it raises the question of why Mari won't be part of the all-hands-on-deck team-up against the Dominators in a couple of weeks.

Perhaps they thought two Vixen's would be too confusing? Too bad. It would be interesting to see Mari meet her own grandmother.

No, I mean what the in-universe reason would be for Mari not helping to fight the aliens, given how team-up-friendly she's shown to be in this season of her web series. In episode 1, Cisco summoned her to an "all-hands-on-deck situation," and then at the end he summoned her to another team-up. Thus, it stands to reason that Cisco would call her for the alien invasion, which is so "all-hands-on-deck" that they're even recruiting from a parallel universe. So there'd have to be some story reason why the character was unavailable. I hope there's a mention of Cisco trying to reach her, at least.

In real life, the reason Mari is absent is presumably the same reason Amaya was created in the first place -- because Megalyn Echikunwoke wasn't available.

I just realized something... This season is set before Vixen's live-action appearance on Arrow: "Taken," which is why she and Laurel recognized each other there. In season 2, her hair is still about as short as it was in season 1. But assuming the episodes of the live-action shows come out roughly in real time, then season 2 has to be sometime between early November 2015 ("Lost Souls," when Ray was found alive and rescued) and late January 2016 (when Ray, Stein, and Jax left on the Waverider). So that means there's maybe 2-3 months between season 2 and "Taken" in late February." But Mari's hair is much, much longer in "Taken," which is problematical, since human hair typically grows no more than half an inch per month. It should be maybe an inch and a half longer in "Taken," but it's more like a foot longer at least. I remarked on this before -- even between season 1 and "Taken," there wasn't enough time for her hair to grow that long. But this makes it even more problematical. (The makers of "Taken" had planned to put the actress in a short wig, but they liked the way her long hair looked. I guess they didn't consider the problem with that.)

Just saw all of season 2. It went by rather quickly and it reminded me of Avatar: The Last Airbender, especially with the montage featuring people using the elements.

Quick question... Who was the guy and the blonde woman raising a glass to Mari at the end when she was at the exhibit? I thought it was Ollie and Felicity but then when Mari arrived in Star City or wherever she was going, Ollie was there, suited up and ready.

Mr. Jones looks a lot like Hugo Strange. :)
I noticed that...
I thought it was Hugo Strange at first too.

Other stuff...
  • She can channel multiple animals.
  • She killed someone. Has she killed anybody before?
  • I guess we won't be seeing her sister in live action unless it's a flashback.

I don't remember specifically, but at a guess, maybe Ray and Laurel? They were with her during the climactic action, so they could've stuck around for the denouement.
