TOS/TAS Shuttlecraft....

Thumbs up! :)

Are you planning to add the windows?

Also, as a side request - I'd be honored if you'd take a peek at my Nomad thread and let me know what you think?

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled programming...;)
Very nice Nomad! :techman:

Yes, I will be adding windows and other detail.

I see this craft as slightly smaller than the familiar Class F and without the standing room interior of the Class F as MJ had originally planned. This will be a strictly sublight craft.

I think I like this better than the previous effort. I think it looks more evolutionary. Most of what is left to do are the hull markings.

A Class G shuttlecraft is a strictly sublight vehicle albeit capable of generating a low warp field that allows the craft to attain high sublight speeds without being subjected to reletavistic effects. These kind of craft could have been the first auxiliary vehicles assigned to Starfleet's new deep space starships such as the Constitution-class. These vehicles were limited to intrasolar and orbit-to-surface missions. These craft were phased out of service when the larger and more capable Class F shuttlecraft were introduced.

Very nice look. Really like the line.
Early goings. Any thoughts?

Either an escape pod or alien probe.

Ah, going for the narrow interpretation. One rarely sees that version of the Jefferies' concept.

This will prove interesting!

At this point I’m undecided as to make is a shuttlecraft or repurpose it as something else, and changing the scale in the process.

Although they couldn’t build this as a fullsize mockup they could still have made a miniature given the resources of the time. The design could have served as a scoutship of some kind, an older Earth or Federation vessel or even an alien ship.

Other than that you're making me feel lazy, how could I not approve?

Outstanding progress. Your modeling has a heft to it that I really enjoy.

Thanks.

There are a lot of blank spaces, or missing elements, to these early concepts that leave quite a bit of room for speculation and interpretation.

I'm scrapping what I've done here so far given I wasn't really happy with where it was going. I have started anew with corrections from reinterpreting MJ's original sketch.

I am also repurposing this design from a proposed ship based shuttlecraft to perhaps a runabout/scoutship type vehicle. With that increase in scale it likely couldn't be accommodated within a starship hangar bay.

Some progress. I had a helluva time with those wings.

Candidly, although this was MJ's first concept for the TOS shuttlecraft, I still prefer the design we actually got (the Class F). There is something of a 1950's vibe to this early concept that strikes me as more pre TOS than the general design we saw in TOS.

I will proceed with more detail to flesh this out even though such detail is not in MJ's original sketches. At some point down the road I will tackle this concept again to tweak it a bit more to my liking.

That shape has always interested me, as while it's clearly Starfleet, it does lend itself well to Romulan :)

Despite having a rounded nose I don’t this as any more aerodynamic than the familiar Class F.
