TOS/TAS Shuttlecraft....

First look.

Some progress.

It will be interesting adding nacelles. Any guesses where they’ll be?

As I said upthread this is lossely based on an early MJ sketch for what became the familar TOS shuttlecraft. And so from that this is an idea for a vehicle that could have preceded the Class F. Its capabilities are more limited and it likely isn’t warp capable, or at least not interstellar capable as the Class F is.

I'm trying to make this look somewhat evolutionary because the Class F likely wouldn't have sprung into being radically new and different than what came before while still being a significant advancement.

My basic thinking is that this design has space warp nacelles, but is capable of only very limited low warp flight. As such it isn't interstellar capable and it predates duotronics and the other advances that came with the new breed of starships and shuttlecraft.

This isn't much more than an intrasolar and orbit-to-surface craft. The space warp nacelles allow it to reach decent percentages of lightspeed without the problematic issues of time dilation.

A couple of things.

Firstly I've remade the bow of the ship. It was just a bit too bulbous for my liking. I think it looks much better now. Secondly I've chosen to paint the craft in a similar colour scheme as the Class F which I think jazzes it up a bit. Of course, I am steadily adding more detail.

Of course, here is MJ's original concept sketch.

I like the curve of the front end. Even though this is a predecessor to the TOS shuttle, it sets up a nice evolutionary step between that shuttle and the Galileo 5 from TFF.

I have another version of this early concept I sketched out once that I’d like to try after this one is done. From there I would like to tackle MJ’s original shuttlecraft concept.

After that there is another go at TAS’ heavy lander (“Mudd’s Passion”) and the aquashuttle. Indeed I have more than one concept each regarding the TAS designs. There are a few other TAS designs I’d like to flesh out as “real” versions.

There are also the shuttlecraft from TMP and TFF I’d like to explore as well as one or two conceptual sketches for the films.

The shuttles from TFF were two of the only things I loved about that movie.

I like where your shuttle is going.

Back almost twenty years ago I wrote a TOS fanfic story called “The Forgotten Merchants.” In that story the Enterprise comes across the wrecked hulk of an older Starfleet cruiser, the Atlantis, NCC-1376. They track the drift of the Atlantis back to an uncharted planet in unexplored space where on the surface they find the wreckage of one of the ship’s shuttlecraft. And thats where the story gets going.

I changed the registry number to 1378 because I thought the 6 looked odd in the TOS Starfleet font.
