Thinking about doing a Voyager binge watch.

I'll usually skip the ones I have particularly bad memories of. And in any case, VOY is the ultimate "skip episodes no problem" show, because of its Reset Button reliance.

Except perhaps The Gift. You might wonder why you never see Kes anymore.

That episode plus a horrible, insulting and destructive episode in season 6 are the episode who really should be skipped.

As for me, when I make my Voyager Relaunch of seasons 1-3, I don't skip any episode even if I could skip a few, like Emanations, Blood Fever, Macrocosm, and Real Life.

Threshold is actually horrible but if you imagine the whole episode as a nightmare Tom paris had after eating too much of Neelix's food, then it's actually funny.

My remark was simply a reply to Oddish, that many episodes can be skipped because of the 'reset button'. The Gift is one of those rare episodes that has repercussions for the rest of the series and permanently changes things, whether you like the episode or not. It is not an evaluation of how much I like or dislike the episode. In fact, I don't like Kes' leaving at all, even though I still think she got a relatively gracious exit in The Gift.

Of course, this being a rewatch, any episode one dislikes can be skipped. But for a first-time viewer, this episode cannot be skipped in the way such a viewer could skip many 'reset button episodes', at least, not if that viewer wants to understand what happened to Kes.

I see your point here.

As for first-time viewers, I think that no episodes should be skipped.
But a certain episode in season six should be skipped even by them.

I'm doing one of these right now, I'm in Season 4 right now (just watched The Raven). Lot of good stuff early on that I didn't remember as much. A few have been cringey, but only one I've skipped so far (after a few minutes of watching it and then checking out the IMDB reviews) was Nemesis. Chakotay-centric story, really bad dialog, just wasn't feeling it.

That was my head canon until "Mindwalk" in Prodigy, which admitted that yes, Janeway actually did get turned into a salamander.

In your honor, if and when I rewatch VOY, The Not Scottish Episode will get a pass.

And as I said, in VOY, you can do that. There's some episodes I intend to skip from now on, no matter how many rewatches I do.

It's been a while since I watched Voyager and I was just wondering would it hurt to skip episodes?

I guess it depends on what you feel would be skippable. Everyone has different criteria for what they feel is bad... some hate horror themed episodes, some hate extreme technobabble, some hate episodes that center on specific characters, etc.

If it has been a very long time since last watching VOY, I think skipping episodes might hurt more than help, simply because you might find an episode really enjoyable that most people don't like. "THRESHOLD", for example... except the last 5 minutes, I think it's pretty damn good. (Great character scenes for Tom, great body horror, cool concept.) But I'm definitely in the minority of liking that one.

By the same token, I really despise "UNIMATRIX ZERO" (enough to call it THE worst episode of the series), and though it is not widely regarded as great, I don't think it's reviled by many, either.

I know this probably doesn't really answer your question, but that's my thoughts on the subject.

A lot of it is subjective. I think that technically, "Threshold" is the worst episode of the series. But, I'd rather watch it than an offensive character assassination piece like "Nightingale".

^ Or Fury which I detest for similar reasons. True, Threshold is bad in many respects, but at least it's not vile. And I actually enjoy it for the reasons Farscape gave, and the fact that it's just such a bizarre, 'what the hell did they smoke?' episode.

All those episodes are a quick skip for me. Most don't feel reasonable in their execution and don't even invite a chuckle at the antics going on on screen.

I like when they give Chakotay something to do, and I glimpse what you're saying here, but this episode is sort of a guilty pleasure. The premise is your typical PTSD soldier story but in a rare twist the non human looking Predators are the "good" guys.

Count me in the camp of loving "NEMESIS". A highly underrated episode that has a great message about propaganda, PTSD, and war. I especially am glad that they didn't have Chakotay be okay with being in the same room as the Kradin in the end... made it more realistic.

I'll always defend this episode. Everyone else... you fathom?

I like Nemesis!

My favorite season 4 episode.

In fact, the only season 4 episode I really like!

Mostly because it's a good Chakotay episode, one of the few later episodes where Chakotay gets the chance to shine.

I also like that little twist in the tale when it comes to the Vori and the Kradin.

Not to mention that I like the Vori language. If I ever become a millionaire, I'll will buy some land, declare it independent and with the Vori language as the main language! :techman:

The old saw "well, you can skip a ton because of the reset button" argument will of course be trotted out, but every episode has value and I don't skip any of them. For me, Voyager the ship was the most interesting Starfleet vessel since the original Enterprise, with the Defiant a close second (but the DS9 crew didn't spend nearly as much time on it as the VOY group did on Voyager for several obvious reasons), so any chance to see the sets in action is terrific. And if you like any of the actors, it's fun to see what they do with the material even if your overall assessment of the episode is poor. To take just one example, despite the knocks he takes, Beltran is typically up to something interesting in just about every episode no matter how relegated he is to the background.
