Things I Haven't Done

I love long train journeys, I've been on a few across northern England over the years.

As for foreign destinations, only Norway comes to mind at the moment. I suppose I could combine the two ideas, see if there's a train route to take there someday.

Norway was beautiful by train and boat. It was Midsummer, and the weather was clear and so nice for viewing the fjords and villages and towns. Though the good weather only lasts 6 weeks or so, it is really something. The land comes alive in such an urgent rush, almost as if to say, "Hurry, look at me be with me enjoy me before I have to go!".

I still need time to learn more of the language and save some money, I can plan for the "warmer" weather there. I have a friend in Oslo I haven't seen in years, should see if I can contact her.

Visit: Finland, Norway (and other places in Scandinavia), Germany, Japan, Canada and the USA at some point, no idea when/if it'll happen. Most likely I'll get to some places and not some others.

Write and record a full album, or at least an EP. I'm fortunate enough to have a few songs recorded that I'm proud of, and I'm starting to get some written that I'm happy with, but one day, hopefully within the next 2 or 3 years I want a substantial amount of my own material on record. On that note I also want to be a professional singer once I've finished my degree, failing that at least some kind of decent job in the music industry.

I also really want to get a girlfriend and eventually to get married, I just don't know how to approach girls and ask them for a date, I have several girl-friends, but I've never had a girlfriend. It always seems to be the case that I make excuses for myself: 'we won't be in the same place for long enough' and 'we have outlooks on life that differ too much' always seem to be the biggest. I'm not interested in flings, I'd be looking for a relationship.

Traveling by train is still a wonderful way to travel, if you are selective about the train. You want a train in which you can be comfortable, a place to at least freshen up, and a chance to go out on an observation platform. You will see places you cannot see by air or car. I have been luck enough to travel by train in Scandinavia, America, Scotland, England and France. Truly wonderful, and at times, almost magical!

Having been on some trains which were long journeys of hell this is good advice. If you do something big like the trans siberian or whatever read up on how other people found the experience and what to bring with you and expect. Sometimes a really long train journey is almost like camping. But if you're into trains it's certainly an epic thing to save and plan for.

I want to visit The Andromeda galaxy! :D

Seriously; Hawaii, Maine & Oregon for US. Then; Chile, Ireland, Estonia, New Zealand & The Philippines for the rest of the world. :bolian:

Hubby & I have a trip to Wales & London on our bucket-list. Really, at this point, I would just like to go SOMEWHERE.

I've never travelled outside the us. I went to Windsor Canada but that is an extension of Detroit that it almost doesn't count. I've never been overseas or even the main cities in Canada

How are those long train rides? I would think they would be an uncomfortable experience, same with flying long distances. Are there things to do to pass the time or do you just sit there.

I also want to do a cruise one day. Never done one and those look fun.

The only thing I have left on my bucket list is to have a story published. I did enter the new SNW contest, so fingers crossed.

Before that, the only other thing left on the list was to ride a horse, even if it was being led around a corral. I'm pleased to say at the age of 56 I did that at the State Fair this year. I did well enough that the lady let me go around by myself after a bit. I was beaming like a child.

Things I wish I had done, but can't (too late due to health issues, bad spine): water skiing, skiing and riding a bobsled. At the time I was healthy enough to do so, there was no money and/or I was pregnant/raising my family.

Even so, I've done most of what I wanted to do in life so zero complaints.

My husband's in trouble because I have some UK guidebooks and once I move I'm going to want to go everywhere there. If you ever do your trip and I've moved by then, it could be fun to meet up!

Good luck!

Was it uncomfortable at all or did it feel natural? I think I'd be so awkward on a horse.

.

You're in trouble now. Once you move there, I can use that an excuse. "But we HAVE to go visit!"

You will have two very goofy-looking, old people on your doorstep one day.

Having an actual, meaningful romantic relationship of...any kind, really. At this point I'll take what I can get. When I was younger I always told myself that there would always be the future, that it didn't matter so much that I have a hard time forming deep bonds with people because someday it would improve on its own. Now that I'm in my 30s though, I'm really starting to feel the press of time and to realize that this magical turnaround I was always expecting isn't going to come out of nowhere.

If I ever want to meet somebody I need to start working on it, but putting myself out there is a really scary thought.

I was about to say, "wait 'til you get to your forties," but then--

Tell me about it, I turn 46 next spring.

So instead I'll just say "Yes, exactly." I know that one all too well...

When you get older you realize nothing improves on its own, nothing magically comes to you, there's no "when you're ready, it will happen". You have to do it yourself, change your life around, change yourself around, take actual steps towards what wants you have. Suddenly you don't believe whatever crap you've been telling yourself all these years because there are less years left.. there is no more "someday"

And you kinda feel like smacking all the people who ever told you exactly that -- that it would happen when you were ready. Oddly, they were the same people who so religiously kept you in the "friend zone," as though that were a foregone conclusion. Sometimes, you wonder if they ever actually knew the meaning of the word.

But I digress. :p

Me? I want to own my own home, exit the rat race, live comfortably, and find something to do with myself that will actually have meaning for the future.

What that latter thing might be? Haven't a clue.

And ruling the world would be nice. Universes are too much work.

Cruise around the world on the Elizabeth or Mary, first class with the tuxes and gowns and gentile manners and the civility.

Have the God-like power to bring all the animal leaders of Daesch and Al Quaida, and Drug Warlords and Human Traffickers and Religious Leaders and County Clerks who exclude whole portions of the population, and anybody else who insists on being a F-Head, and tell them,

"Stop this shit right now, or I will. And you will not like the way I stop it."

So. Time travel.

Yeah, sort of, but;
A Sheikh in Dubai owns the Elizabeth II and had it in Singapore for refit. Last I heard, money problems! And it is laid up in Dubai. Mary II is cruising now, and Cunard has a new Elizabeth
cruising. All it takes is time and money!

I was referring to your assumption that first class and tuxes resulted in "gentile" manners. I assume you meant genteel as otherwise..

 thank you, tea, missed the incorrect Apple spell check. But I hope that there are still ships like those and levels of class that still offer what I mentioned.

Dreaming?

It was metioned above. The Trans-Siberian railway to Beijing is something I would really like to experience.
