Things I Haven't Done

I really want to go to South Africa.

It'd also be kinda neat to live in Manhattan. But, at this point, it'd be cheaper to travel to SA. :p

One of the things I haven't done is a thing I'm going to do this spring: go to Ottawa and visit Parliament Hill.

And conversely, one thing I am never ever EVER going to do even if there is a gun to my head, is this:

Having been a member of this board for 13 years, I've had the privilege to read stories about experiences people have had, and so I got to thinking, is there anything you've read about people doing that you haven't done but would like to do?

I'll start. For example, I see others discussing places they have traveled, across the country and whatnot, but I have never flown on an airplane. I've never had the opportunity, though I would love to fly. It looks like a really cool experience.

Well, a few of my resolutions for this year:

*Make a short film to showcase my directorial, writing, and acting skills.

*Write a personal spec script sequel based on the horrible film "Aloha."

*Write 1-2 television spec scripts for Warner's Writing Workshop.

*Get some community service/activism in for my Master's degree application for later this year.

*Visit Long Beach, CA....since I've been feeling nostalgic.

*Visit Pasadena and Altadena, CA....since I've been feeling nostalgic.

*Meet my better half who is a Eurasian/Hapa (who likes to wear boots) although, finding a better half usually happens in weird ways. (Hmmm, do I visit Hawaii?)

*Be comfortable with myself.

*Get my weight down to where I want it to be. Get back to jogging. Get back to exercising. Get some upper body strength going. (I do want some abs!)

*Maybe, finally, get my two short stories published? And get my short film script fleshed out and completed.

I don't particularly care to, though. The whole airport process sounds like a giant pain in the ass.

If I am going to go on my dream trip to Hawaii, I will have to fly. I doubt I will be able to swim there. :p

I just never had the money to fly anywhere that wasn't within driving distance.

Flying is pretty cool. I did it way back in High School when I was part of the Civil Air Patrol (something anyone can get into at any age here in the US). But it does take a *lot* of time to learn all of the basics, pass the tests, and so on.

Still, being in a little Cessna, just a couple-thousand feet over the ground is quite the experience.

-Get more fit
-Get the teaching licensure- it has been seven years and it should have taken me about two years.
-Move to Austin
-Have a kid

Airports are a pain in the arse (worse than they used to be).

Flying is fun though.

Space Diving sounds a hell of a lot of fun. I do have an issue with heights but I've done abseiling and flying and neither of those seem to kick that fear in to action.

If you have an aviation club near you that has gliders, then you could just ask for a ride in exchange of a nominal fee. Most instructors are happy to take you up in the front seat and they will usually allow you to have some time flying the aircraft as well.

I want to travel the world. I've only been to Windsor Canada but I would love to go across the ocean and go to Europe.

I'm certainly not avoiding planes. I've just never traveled anywhere that required me getting on one. I'm a big fan of road trips.

That said, I'm theoretically (if life will let me) planning a trip to California later this year, so driving would be impractical.

Two things I haven't done:
  • Travel much - it's just too darned expensive for me to do it alone, and none of my friends or family are willing to go. I would someday like to visit Southern California, Hawaii, Mexico, and parts of Europe. I'd love to go on a cruise just to get a taste of it. I've been to Las Vegas a number of times.
  • Have sex. Ever. With either sex or both - that's self-explanatory. Dare I mention my age?

I would love to visit Iceland.

I would love to be a grandmother (though I don't think it will ever happen).

Would love grandkids too, but don't think they're in my future - son just broke up with long time girlfriend and lost custody of the cat so I won't even get to see him!

Would love to be able to travel, too, sometimes the slow way by boat or train.

DUDE....I would TOTALLY do that!!

Kids, but I find myself wavering on that a bit as time goes by. There are too many places I'd like to visit so I'll stick with something I'd really like that's also realistic. I'd like to visit Scotland.

Traveling by train is still a wonderful way to travel, if you are selective about the train. You want a train in which you can be comfortable, a place to at least freshen up, and a chance to go out on an observation platform. You will see places you cannot see by air or car. I have been luck enough to travel by train in Scandinavia, America, Scotland, England and France. Truly wonderful, and at times, almost magical!
