The Wrath of La'an

What’s really stupid is she hasn’t changed her name when it bothers her so much. I meant in a way that’s a bit of fun, a little nod rather than something to be taken seriously.

Are you sure that’s the way you want to respond? Sounds a little troll-ish to me.
Not trying to be a troll. But dumb is dumb.

She shouldn't have to change her name. It's probably one of the last things she has that connects her to her parents and brother. She and her family did nothing wrong. It's everyone else who is in the wrong because they judge her based on something that happened generations before she was born.

Yeah, but you have to change to fit the world, it’s not going to happen the other way round (sad but true). If my surname was Hitler I’d change it, even though I’d have every right to keep it.

Hitler is not number 9 in the world for last names at the moment. She has not reason to change it beyond her peers discomfort.

How common was the name "Hitler" in pre-WWII German-speaking countries? If he was a "Schmitt" or "Muller" would there have been a mass of name changes?

As for an episode called "The Wrath of La'an", only if it was a comedy.

I wish they hadn't of stuck La'an with the Khan backstory. It's lazy and the character doesn't need that.
It's confusing how they expect it to work with her and Kirk's backstory as a prequel to "Space Seed"

Good thing I don't really think of SNW as a prequel and more of a reboot.

The name Hitler barely existed before Adolf's dad.

Daddy changed his name from Shicklegrubber to con his stepfather out of an inheritance, but the clerk at city hall made a Typo and wrote down Hitler instead of Hiedler.

Time travel does not exist. It is not a real thing, but... This sure seems like someone trying to clean up a mess, after borking the timeline.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how that resolves itself, to be honest. Pre 'Space Seed' Kirk will have a slightly different view of Khan, won't have met him etc, but will still be aware of his history.

He's with Carol, and raising David (part time?).

"Everything" is different.

A socially well adjusted David Kirk is never going to invent Genesis using protomatter.

Fantheory says that Section 31 blows up Seti Alpha VI.

Section 31 is also a totally different Animal in this timeline.

Although blowing up the wrong planet seems more like something someone from the future would do, if it was was an assassination attempt and not an attempt to make Khan more of a hard ass.

That's how I'm looking at it as. Well more an alternate timeline thing. They have been way too liberal with mining elements from TOS. The writers could have come up with more original story telling IMO.

So far we have had almost the entire Crew of TOS except Chekov and Sulu. T'pring. Nurse Chapel and Spock have sexual relations. Kirk meeting the crew a couple different times but not really. Lol....etc.etc...

Dont hate the show but I just wish it was a bit more original and it's own thing.

It really is.

If treating it as a different timeline helps then do it. But the stories are good...period.

The production team is doing what fans do all the time-bring in people who must be around, and must be related to someone in the story.

It's more like they don't give a shit about continuity and don't want to admit they rebooted.
No.

They don't care like fans do.

They are doing like fans do all the time in fam stories.

Because Kirk knowing a descendant means...

...nothing.

Hah, when I watched that scene I was pleased to see Kirks typical optimism but surely the audience was aware it was going to go tits up once David was born? He's not the first parent to think life was going to go a certain way only for the realities of parenthood clash with the myth. Carol, Jim and a baby? I give it 12 months.

Except it shows he knows who Khan is when in "Space Seed", he needed Spock's PowerPoint presentation to inform him.

Remember also cloaking devices were amazing and new in "Balance of Terror" except they were known for 100 years since Enterprise and Discovery. The remake of BoT glossed it over and treated pulsed phasers very differently to the original. It's only a TV show.

Maybe Noonien-Singh is a common place name on Earth, like Smith. Which is why Kirk couldn’t connect the dots.

Or maybe Kirk is misremembering on purpose.

The Bird-of-Prey in Enterprise also had no bird on its hull, despite it being established in BoT that Romulans ships were supposed to have them. And the 22nd century Bird-of-Prey resembled the Bird-of-Prey in the 23rd century...even though the Romulans modeled the 23rd century Bird of Prey after an Earth ship.

Maybe the knowledge of cloaking tech was lost to history after it was determined to be drain on resources. Or there was new Romulan government that took power on Romulus shortly after their drone program failed that also just so happened to be no fan of cloaking tech.

Or maybe that Romulan ship was from the future.
