The Sir Patrick Stewart Topic

Sir Patrick just a little while ago at the Amazon Studios Golden Globes After Party:

I guess it was somewhat of a surprise when this Shakepearean actor took a role on television(?), and on a Star Trek series to boot.

I can't imagine anyone could've portrayed Picard any better. Same with Prof.X. Can you think of anyone more tailor made for the role?

Gurney in Dune was a good role, as was Leondegrance in Excalibur. King Richard in Robin Hood:Men In Tights was funny. Numerous voice acting gigs that should stand out to anyone, including many "appearances" on Family Guy and American Dad.

Sorry, can't find parts 1 & 2 of this great one:

Hehe yes, I love him on Frasier. I'm not ashamed to admit that I know every single line of his from that episode. They're all iconic, as is his entire fabulous portrayal of Alistair Burke. I always say he should play more gay characters - he's a natural at it. ;)

And don't get me started on his Graham Norton appearance and his rather x-rated story, I swear I can't stop talking about it because LMFAO. :guffaw:

He has said that one of the most frequently asked questions back in the day was "why would a serious Shakespearean actor do this", yes. And he got so fed up with it one day - it just sounded so condescending to him and he took his work on TNG just as seriously as his stage work - that he replied that ALL his Shakespearean characters had only PREPARED him for the captain's chair.

I would say HE was the most surprised person of them all, though - after all he only accepted the job because everyone assured him TNG would fail anyway and he'd be back on stage in the UK in a few months. He had no plans whatsoever for the show actually being a success, and he was rather overwhelmed by it at times, especially at his first convention. He had refused to go to any of them throughout the first season, he didn't see the point, but he has said that the first time he walked out on a convention stage in front of the fans he "knew what it was like to be a Beatle". lol I've seen footage of him at one of his first conventions and you could absolutely tell that he was rather nervous and often also a bit clueless as to what to say or do, it was clearly completely new territory for him. He also seemed rather "WTF" at first at all the ladies that came up to the stage and handed him all kinds of presents.

If Vicious had gone longer, I would've loved to see him do an appearance there, gay character or not. He would obviously have been perfect with McKellen and Jacobi.

But then, the telly might have exploded with all the sheer talent in one place. It was pretty close with the 2 stars.

Yes! I would have LOVED to see him on that show. I mean he's great with Derek Jacobi (see Hamlet and I, Claudius) and everyone knows how awesome he is with Sir Ian as well, so... yeah. It would have been awesome to see him on Vicious. I was actually kinda miffed they didn't seem to have even asked him! ;)

I love him as Avery Bullock in American Dad.

Haha, yeah. I like how they deliberately give him the most outrageous lines, just to hear him say them. lol

Here's the video of Sir Patrick on This Morning today (careful, might be a bit spoiler-ish concerning Star Trek: Picard):
