Spoilers The Ships of Lower Decks

Ok so that Romulan ship has a bunch of names. Snipe class (according to M-B, that's what SFC1 calls it, but I can't confirm) Starfleet Academy calls it Garuda-Class, while Klingon Academy has an upgraded version called the Centurion Class, but it appears to be mostly identical except for hull colour.

In the new trailer, I believe that I saw a new type of runabout. It is the ship escaping from the exploding Borg ship.
Looked more like the shuttlecraft seen in Insurrection which does share a lot of similarities with the runabout, and indeed the interior is a redress of the runabout's.
The only class I know of where they had a theme and kept it was the Danube-class runabouts, which were named after Earth's rivers.
The California class so far seems to be named after places in California.

the USS Vancouver was a "Parliament Class". While Canada does have a Parliament, so do numerous other countries. So I'm not sure if they were going for a theme there.

For smallcraft, the Cerritos' shuttles were all named after California national parks, while the Vancouver's shuttles were named after districts in the City of Vancouver.

Parliament-class will be a thing to ask about. I'd have expected Parliament to be a Sovereign-class ship, but here we are.

Presumably, when somebody proposes a ship class, they sometimes include a theme for vessels of the class.
And when Starfleet Shipyards Operations manufactures those vessels, it depends on the administrator in charge whether a under production adheres to that theme or gets Random Ship Name.

In the DS9 post-series novels, all new runabouts assigned to the station (and its successor) are named after Bajoran rivers.
In Star Trek: Armada II, Nebula-class ships are named after Human scientists.
In the ENT and ENT: Rise of the Federation novels, NX- and Columbia-class (= NX refit) starships are named after notable piloted Earth spacecraft.

As a kid, based on the Defiant and Valiant, I used to think Defiant-class ships have names ending in "-iant", e.g. Reliant, Deviant.

some real life navies like to name ships in a theme, with some exceptions.

Like all the Halifax Class frigates in Canada are named after Canadian Cities. The class name being the capital of Nova Scotia.

Most, if not all, US Battleships were named after states.

My only problem with the Luna Titan is that now it gives the STO players a feeling of legitimacy when you're talking canon. In reddit discussions they chime in with information from STO's continuity as if it's part of the main timeline.

Never been a fan of ships that require you to walk through the nacelles to get to the mission deck. But California is kind of cool.

Love the Pakled stuff, and that we now see them in the theme song.

Parliament is probably the prettiest ship in the show. Actually probably in my top 10 starfleet designs.

Poor you, those dangnabbit STO players. I do agree about the Parliament Class. It is a beauty.

Nope. It looks much more similar to a runabout (huge intake under the pylons, apparently 2 front windows).
