Game The Most Disliked Wedding Episode, 2025 Edition

Sakonna

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
THE OBJECTIVE: A sudden-death elimination game in which we remove our personal favorite episodes/movies from a themed list, until we arrive at the episode that is, if not the worst, at least the most disliked.

It's a framework to say positive things about episodes from across the franchise.

THE RULES: Below is a list of episodes & movies with weddings (or alien ceremonies that are equivalent to weddings) from TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, DIS, LD, and SNW.

Eliminate/save your favorite, or the one you deem the ‘best' of what currently remains.
Post something you enjoy about the episode you are saving, and copy-and-paste the list with your choice removed.

You can use any standard you like to judge which option is "best." You can save episodes for being widely recognized “best Trek” classics, or for idiosyncratic qualities that no one appreciates but you.

As you get down the list, you might have to reach more and more for something to enjoy about an episode, and it's OK to eventually save episodes for being "less bad."

But -- no tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you don’t think anyone else will, or because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to “win.”

You can take multiple turns.

Leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

New players are always welcome. You do not have to already be a "most disliked game" regular to dive in.

Much thanks to @Farscape One for helping me vet the list!

Enjoy!

Saving DS9, Season 5: “Call To Arms”. Not necessarily the best episode about a wedding, but this is a great episode where the wedding contributes to the greatness. It provides comedy and a bittersweet edge. Rom and Leeta's separation after the ceremony ends up playing into the other separations that happen at the end, up to Sisko realizing Jake is still on the station. The wedding is a great dramatic device, and Robert Hewitt Wolf deserves high praise for his writing skills.

ETA: as weak as the Garak-Ziyal romance was, here it feels real and fleshed out. They seem like a couple working together, that understand one another, and who use their experience to help our another couple struggling to come to terms with each other.

I like Data's Day. I like Data and it's a nice episode. I also find the dancing lesson bit really funny. My mum and stepdad made the weird face Data makes while slow dancing into the screen saver for our TV.

Going to Nu Trek for my first rescue... though the wedding sequence is brief and tangential, "A Quality of Mercy" is an exciting and strangely ironic episode that shows that the Starfleet Way may not always be ideal.

You Are Cordially Invited is just hilarious, and it's good to see a Klingon wedding.

The energy in the bachelorette is something else though.

One of my favorite things about Lower Decks was building out the Orions. Saving "Something Borrowed, Something Green."

Also, top T'Lyn moment. "Oh no. My report has been damaged." Tosses PADD out window.

Saving Discovery's grand finale Life Itself an overall beautiful episode marred only by Oded Fehr flubbing his line and saying admiral instead of ambassador which the obsessive purists at memory alpha of course canonise.

I hate them all! :guffaw:

Just joking.

Two come to mind, mostly because of plot ideas/creativity:

But since this is about the characters getting it on:

TOS, Season 3: "The Paradise Syndrome"

Is my first save.

it's the only relationship-driven episode I liked, and not because of that horrific ending! I actually could believe in the Kirok/Miramanee relationship developing and moving along, especially due to the actors' on-screen chemistry. (But, damn, that ending is one of TOS's grimmest.)

The actual plot element du jour, involving the obelisk from the Preservers, beings who go planet-hopping and save/transport examples of lifeforms they believed would be at risk of extinction to other planets (sorta like TNG's season 7 episode with Worf's brother only TOS did it with no shenanigans) is an interesting idea, and add in factors like based on planetary rotation, the deflecting machine (since asteroids would be one of many menaces), one of the obelisk's functions is to deflect them and as many other types of space nasties, is sorta charming. Other plot elements may be iffy, but I don't think anything in the story was based out of.

What's left:
TOS, Season 3: “For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky”
TNG, Season 1: “Haven”
TNG, Season 5: “Cost Of Living”
TNG, Season 5: “The Perfect Mate”
TNG Feature: “Star Trek Nemesis”
DS9, Season 4: “The Muse”
DS9, Season 7: “’Til Death Do Us Part”
VOY, Season 3: “Favorite Son”
VOY, Season 7: “Drive”
ENT, Season 4: “Home”
LD, Season 4: "Parth Ferengi's Heart Place"
SNW, Season 2: "Charades"

I like Outrageous Okona for its B-plot.
~ Oh, yes, I like Okona I mean, the B-plot, too!

I'll save LDS: "Parth Ferengi's Heart Place" - mainly for establishing that Rutherford and Tendi don't need to be a couple, but also for them in that Jefferies Tube at the end
TdgteYJ.gif
FWIQBRW.gif
And Rutherford in that suit!

TOS, Season 3: “For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky”
TNG, Season 1: “Haven”
TNG, Season 5: “Cost Of Living”
TNG, Season 5: “The Perfect Mate”
TNG Feature: “Star Trek Nemesis”
DS9, Season 4: “The Muse”
DS9, Season 7: “’Til Death Do Us Part”
VOY, Season 3: “Favorite Son”
VOY, Season 7: “Drive”
ENT, Season 4: “Home”
SNW, Season 2: "Charades"

I was eyeing Lower Decks for my next save but as it no longer necessary Til Death Do Us Part will be saved. I wonder if Sisko ever decided his brief marriage to Kassidy was worth being stuck in the wormhole for all eternity.

TOS, Season 3: “For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky”
TNG, Season 1: “Haven”
TNG, Season 5: “Cost Of Living”
TNG, Season 5: “The Perfect Mate”
TNG Feature: “Star Trek Nemesis”
DS9, Season 4: “The Muse”
VOY, Season 3: “Favorite Son”
VOY, Season 7: “Drive”
ENT, Season 4: “Home”
SNW, Season 2: "Charades"

Here's the other I'd debated. The romance idea is just middling meandering trope fodder, but:

TNG, Season 1: “Haven”

does benefit from a multiple of things:
  1. Lwaxana is introduced
  2. Troi had more of a life being brought up
  3. The n00d wedding idea is cute
  4. So was the dinner scene with living plants, foreshadowing 'Shades of Gray' for all the unintentional and wrong reasons
  5. The topic du jour, of the Tarellians, is also kept to the side but easily could have been given the whole 39 minutes of main plot time to explore.
  6. Petty bickering before Jerry Springer took it to the next level
  7. etc
Also,

CRUSHER: The Tarellians had reached Earth's late twentieth century level of knowledge. That's all you need if you're a damned fool. A deadly, infectious virus which at that modest level of knowledge is not difficult to grow.
TASHA: We learned the rest of the story in security training. Some Tarellians made it to other worlds only to die along with the populations they infected.
LAFORGE: It's pretty well covered in Academy training now, Captain. Many of them tried to avoid other civilised worlds as they escaped only to be hunted down and destroyed anyway.
PICARD: And it was believed that the last Tarellian vessel was destroyed eight years ago by the Alcyones.

Damn. That's morbid stuff too, on Staaaaaaaaaaar Trek The Morbid Generation. Especially as it compels Beverly to start swearing as she's loathing her audience watching in the 20th century! :guffaw:

But it's all kept to the side.

For drama.

Cheap token drama for plot filler.

That doesn't benefit Deanna or Wil.

Complete with "Bil" in one scene.

We know Wyatt won't go anywhere.

Not even to the hair salon to get rid of that family of possums napping on his head.

haven-hd-414.jpg

Don't you love it how the drawings are starting right down on him? Definitely redefines "Three's a crowd"...

Hopefully Wyatt helped them find a cure. It's left wide open, on Staaaaaaar Trek The Weneverfollowuponplottingasktheneoncrawdads Generation

What's left:
TOS, Season 3: “For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky”
TNG, Season 5: “Cost Of Living”
TNG, Season 5: “The Perfect Mate”
TNG Feature: “Star Trek Nemesis”
DS9, Season 4: “The Muse”
VOY, Season 3: “Favorite Son”
VOY, Season 7: “Drive”
ENT, Season 4: “Home”
SNW, Season 2: "Charades"

I'll save another Lwaxana episode: DS9: “The Muse”. Lwaxana and Odo make a lovely couple and Odo's speech is beautiful. I even like Jake's story.

TOS, Season 3: “For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky”
TNG, Season 5: “Cost Of Living”
TNG, Season 5: “The Perfect Mate”
TNG Feature: “Star Trek Nemesis”
VOY, Season 3: “Favorite Son”
VOY, Season 7: “Drive”
ENT, Season 4: “Home”
SNW, Season 2: "Charades"

Charades. I do enjoy SNW's tradition of the annual vulcan farce episode.

TOS, Season 3: “For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky”
TNG, Season 5: “Cost Of Living”
TNG, Season 5: “The Perfect Mate”
TNG Feature: “Star Trek Nemesis”
