Game The Most Disliked Episode Written By Michael Piller, 2025 Edition

THE OBJECTIVE: A sudden-death elimination game in which we remove our personal favorite episodes/movies from a themed list, until we arrive at the episode that is, if not the worst, at least the most disliked.

It's a framework to say positive things about episodes from across the franchise.

THE RULES: Below is a list of TNG, DS9, and VOY episodes written (at least partially) by Michael Piller.

Eliminate/save your favorite, or the one you deem the ‘best' of what currently remains.
Post something you enjoy about the episode you are saving, and copy-and-paste the list with your choice removed.

You can use any standard you like to judge which option is "best." You can save episodes for being widely recognized “best Trek” classics, or for idiosyncratic qualities that no one appreciates but you.

As you get down the list, you might have to reach more and more for something to enjoy about an episode, and it's OK to eventually save episodes for being "less bad."

But -- no tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode because you don’t think anyone else will, or because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to “win.”

You can take multiple turns.

Leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

New players are always welcome. You do not have to already be a "most disliked game" regular to dive in.

A real pillar, or Piller, of the franchise, he wrote some greats. He may have cornered himself unintentionally, but

Is so underrated and brilliant in finding not a big bombastic way to succeed but to find something as tidy as sleep mode. It's plot reversal of pt 1 as well, which is sweeter

TNG Season 5: "Ensign Ro" (teleplay, story with Rick Berman)

The introduction of Ro finally nails down the "one who does not fit in" trope that the show kept missing out on (save for Barclay, who isn't a regular), and is a perfect foil for Guinan as well. The actors as well ooze on-screen chemistry, which is the most important.

There's some proper Trek right there. In real life, I'd imagine how most people would ignore Ro and say how she makes 'em all nervous - either to others, and/or directly to her face. Peachy, huh? Maybe that's why that scene was written? Guesswork, I know.

Guinan would also make a great Doctor, based on Ro's reaction in one moment in that scene...

I saved "Insurrection". It's by no means amazing, but it's not bad. It's more like, weird that the story was chosen for a feature film. It's like, an okayish two parter for the show. Are there better episodes on here? Yeah. But... I felt like Insurrection deserved to be saved.
