The longevity of TMP uniforms?

The one piece uniforms from TMP were dyed red, given new collars and used as cadet uniforms in TWOK through TUC.

They are only cadets if they have a red collar. There are plenty of enlisted with black collars. If you watch the first torpedo bay scene in Wrath of Khan there are bunch of instructors on the left (EDIT: I MEAN RIGHT!) side of the screen at the end of the line, closest to the tubes and opposite the engineering instructors (also with black collars).

And in The Undiscovered Country there are a mess of them on the bridge of the Excelsior during the Praxis "incident".

It'd be more fun to call them "Leftovers from Studio 54", what with how tight and revealing they were, oh my... Always keep the camera lens in direct line a few feet above the anti-grav pad that some poor hapless peach-shirt is wearing, or not... Unless I'm remembering another scene. But to be fair, maybe they're trying to mimic what was etched onto the Pioneer probe as closely as possible and for that, in the greatest form of (un)intentional continuity and real-life tie-in ever.
