The longevity of TMP uniforms?

I meant the earlier Marvel TMP series

well, Since Starfleet tends to field 2 uniforms in parallel most of the time, we can maximize the use of the TMP style by assuming they started being used on Starbases near the end of the 5 year mission and were used alongside the Maroons after 2278. You could probably stretch it over a decade, 2269 to 80.
I like that.

TMP uniforms for surface based outfits.
TNG for ships—DS9/Voyager for stations.

Maroons for marines

Or on Risa, some seem to leave too little to the imagination... whether or not that's a complaint, but regardless of that it's still 1979 when the disco and related revolutions were still going round and round...

For the Maroons, If we look at current military uniforms, you have some type of utilitys for every day work, and kind of an A B C Dressy er uniform, for the USMC, the C is a Short Sleeved, no tie, B is a long sleeve, with Tie, A is a B with a dress coat over it. So I see the Maroons as atleast a B maybe A uniform. The Admiral would definatly wear one, maybe the captain, but the worker bees like Sulu, Uhura would be in B's or C's. Something one can work in, but not as casual as say a doctors smock or engineering overalls.

I do like the TMP in that they were "Everyday" wear and looked comfortable enough to work in them day in and out. with Kirk wearing a more fancy version. For the Maroons, Kirk in Generations wore the "Vest" type of outwear, I would think that would be on a level of the B uniform with out the jacket.

I enjoy just about every uniform I've seen out of the franchise (DISC not that much but ehhh) even though I always do find myself radiating back to TMP's style the most. Then again I have an enjoyment for that kind of comfortable, pain in the butt to probably slip on type of futuristic (at some point in time) type of deal. Though there's also an element of just wishing certain aspects were streamlined or more scrutinized in the film itself like the shoulder tabs needing to be a bit bigger in my opinion.

Makes me want to see what I can do with editing software to get it just a little more right.

If they're going to continue to prequel us to death, I think it would be interesting to go back to the TMP era and explore it a bit more, including seeing that era of Starfleet uniform get some more use. With, perhaps, some strategic modifications as suggested above.

I'd really enjoy this type of thing happening. As far as I know, there's only novels to work in this era and the Marvel Comics 'The Untold Voyagers' which takes place during that whole 2nd five year mission but before they got stuffed into the maroons. Which in itself is a whole lot of room to work with and add onto the costumes.

Monster maroons are the best uniforms period. Runner up is the DS9 jump suits. If doing it over, might have suggested that the Maroons kept TOS colors for their undershirts (gold for command, red for security and engineering, blue for sciences and maybe introduce the teal or ochre) but am not disappointed at all in the existing colors (only the screwup they did on Valeris).

They seemed to have kept TMP colors instead, switching engineering's red for TOS command gold (and reuniting it with operations), and putting non-captain command personnel (and science) in TMP's gray.

The US Navy went through a similarly short-lived period of (loathed) non-traditional uniforms in the 1970s. There were still a few floating around in the Sea Cadets in the late 90s.

I love TWOK era uniforms. I was introduced to Star Trek with the TOS era movies on vhs tapes. I think they're definitely the smartest looking uniforms Star Trek has ever done.
I do wonder what the dress uniform variant would of looked like from that era, not that they needed them as their daily wear was sharp enough lol

Was watching the special features on TMP, it mentioned the uniforms in the film were meant to match the colour palette of The Cage and Where no Man has gone Before uniforms.

They basically do, being pastel shades of blue and yellow. The bridge is also much closer to the more austere colours of The Cage version.

It also said this was a preference of gene roddenberry and it was nbc that insisted of more colour in the sets and uniforms of TOS.

The original Marvel series doesn't comment on the switch to the maroon uniforms, though, since they didn't exist yet when Marvel originally had the Star Trek comics license. That only happens in the later Untold Voyages miniseries by Glenn Greenberg and Mike Collins from 1998.
