The Least Disliked Episode 2025 - DS9 Final Rounds

I renew my vote for T, F & GR. Same reason it wasnt the best of s7 and I dont think it's the best on this list. But we are comparing good episodes to great ones.

As much as I enjoy O'Brien's and Nog's trip down the Great Material River, I reluctantly vote for "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River".

I remove Treachery, Faith, and the Great River, it's a fine episode but I don't really care for it. I actually had to look up which one it is, never a good sign.
For the next round I vote for The Siege of AR-558, this doesn't feel like Star Trek at all, they wanted to do a World War 1 style siege ... good for them but this is not what I'm interested in watching when I turn on Star Trek. I skip this episode more often than not.

The House Of Quark again, same reasons as before.

In my head this looks like a battle between Duet and In the Pale Moonlight.

It pains me deeply but The House of Quark is probably the weakest episode remaining on this list of pure gold.

Again I vote for "The Jen'Hadar". If Eris had wanted to spy for the Dominion, all she had to do is go through the Wormhole to DS9, say "Hi, I am a Vorta from the Gamma Quadrat. Mind if I hang around for a bit on this very interesting space station?" and Starfleet and the Bajorans would have welcomed her. The Jem'Hadar would have remained unknown so no-one would have been devising plans to deal with them, and Eris would have been able to withdraw at any time, leaving the Federation oblivious to the threat.

"The Siege Of AR-558" I think this episode just fails visually. It's hard when the script requires a heavy reliance on that cave set.

Also taking out Siege of AR-558, just not as dinner and a movie. IMHO it's the weakest of the bunch, which is still amazing considering how strong 558 is in some ways but how much stronger the others are. That said, two other episodes had crossed my mind. Just not necessarily the same two. Maybe one of the two, or even both of the two, but definitely not the same two...

I agree - Siege doesn't quite measure up to its reputation.

For the new round, I have no choice but to target House of Quark as the lesser remaining.

Once again, "The Jem'Hadar".

(An advantage of an unpopular choice is that I can coast through several rounds without having to put in any more work...)

IMHO, one is weaker than the other, but I'm voting Jem'Hadar because it's the more generic of the two. True, the shiny new species gets used better later on, but we've seen Sisko captured in better stories and the shuttlecraft piloting subplot is trope-creating as the two teenager-placeholders get into some hijinks. There's otherwise a cool action scene at the end that helps show the Jem'Hadar being better at "This is a good day to die" as DS9 just shows it without the pomp, making it even more pomp as a result, but the other story I'm thinking of voting for just holds up better all around and has nothing to establish, just making cleverer use of established characters but more on that later. At the end, it's not an easy choice to make as this DS9 list is easily the most comprehensive and best of all the Trek shows...

Homefront, there seems to be a pattern, I find it hard to care about war episodes mostly set in random locations and earth is a random location that I don't care for in the Star Trek universe. The characters always talk about how significant earth is but it rarely shown, it seems to consist of a tiny starfleet academy that's less busy than a mid sized high school and Sisko's restaurant (swap that for the Picard vineyard in TNG) and that's it. I don't want to see earth, I want to be out there.

My big criticism of modern Trek is it's inability to stop making it all about Earth. I used to praise Trek for using this card so sparingly (I think only three times over Trek's first 26 seasons), and now almost every season arc is about a threat to Earth.

House of Quark. The episode is fun, but it relies heavily on Shimerman's chops, and it is rife with flaws. The use of other regulars is horrible. How were both Siddig and Grodenchik directed to act so overly broad? The lighting works against the mood, and Robert OReilly seems a bit incredulous. Poorly scripted, poorly directed.

Removing Homefront. As a matter of principle, I dislike most episodes set on Earth. I'm more okay with stories set in an alternate universe or timeline, like Picard season 2, and I can live with ST IV: The Voyage Home because the comedy worked for me. But mostly I think they're a copout for shows set in space.

For the new round, I'm giving a point to The Jem'Hadar, I agree with @Victoria above. The plot feels contrived to me.
