Spoilers The crossover episode

I'm wondering if Boimler would look into how Pike seemed to be aware of his future

Well, we already know (based on "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow") that

the timeline has been altered

so that's a ready-made excuse for any differences in aesthetics.

Which has been true since First Contact and Enterprise. I'm glad to see the show finally proved my argument right, though.

If anything this might cast him in an even more heroic light so far as 25th century historians are concerned

My spoiler free thoughts on the SNW LD Crossover "Those Old Scientists":

  • It's a love letter to Star Trek as a whole, the 2 series too, crafted in a way to progress the respective characters and arcs of each show and lots of emotions of all sorts (joy, sadness, laughter...).
  • awesome telented people infront and behind the camera, writting, directing and all of that.
  • It does not feel cheaply cobbled together fan service checklisty messy.
  • An instant all time favorite for me to rewatch many times in the future.

Why would it? It's an episode of SNW, not LDS.
It's not unheard of for shows that have a crossover in another series to include the episode from that other series in their own DVD sets. The DVD sets for the various NCIS shows include crossover episodes on each other's sets. For example, the NCIS set will include episodes from the LA, Sew Orleans or Hawai'i spinoffs that characters from the OG show appear in. For that matter, the NCIS Los Angeles sets even include episodes from Hawaii Five-Oh that their characters guest starred in. Doctor Who and its spinoffs include episodes on each others DVD releases, for example the DVD of the DW Jon Pertwee story The Green Death includes the two-parter Sarah Jane Adventures episode Death of the Doctor. Likewise, the season sets for Sarah Jane Adventures include Doctor Who episodes which have a connection to episodes in that season. For Star Trek examples, the SNW set includes Balance of Terror, the TOS S2 Blu-ray set includes DS9's Trials and Tribble-ations. Bottom line, don't be surprised if Those Old Scientists is indeed included with the Lower Decks physical media release

Since ENT's "In a Mirror, Darkly" featured the TOS Defiant, I find it unlikely that it was part of the alternate timeline from "Tomorrow and..."

The TOS design and DSC/SNW design are the same ship. Just the DSC/SNW is updated for modern TV, it's no different in-universe.

Picard has used both designs, and Lower Decks has used both designs. It's just whatever the art team feels like using at the time.

They've given us the "altered timeline" excuse if wanted in S02E04. But yeah, they tend to treat it as swapping out actors. Is Saavik Kersty Alley or Robin Curtis today? Is the Enterprise TOS or SNW?

Yep. We can no longer trust our own eyes when watching Star Trek anymore. In one scene Worf only has one penis, and in another scene he has two.

It was joyous and I'll be re-watching that a lot.

The best bit? Well I mean the best bit was all of it but I did like Una and Spock discussing how Boimler and Mariner's references were awfully specific, Mariner giving Una completely the wrong idea about Boimler's 'pin up' of her and then Ransom perving over said poster at the end.

Loved the animated SNW titles, the animated SNW characters at the end, joke about flippy communicators...I could go on and on but I won't..."Worf's honour."

My only disappointment? I sorta expected that Noël Wells would play Tendi's ancestor, that seemed such an obvious set up.

Biggest surprise? I guess how adorkable Tawny Newsome is!
