10x20-Unending: I must say that as a standalone show, perhaps even a typical season ender this episode would've been sufficient. I know thanks to you guys they didn't find out till too late to alter things that they'd been permanently cancelled. The Asgardian race has resigned to the fact they can't alter their genetic path, they are going extinct and in facing that reality are going to relinquish all their knowledge and gifts to the humans. Reversing course on seasons of "no we can't give you the tech". LOL!!. In the events of this happening the Ori attck the Prometheus with SG-1 on board. A seeming death strike is sent but Sam traps the Prometheus in a time dilation field(same one used to trap the Replicators) where time passes infinitesimally slower to those in the bubble. We watch the SG team spend years trying to figure out how to avoid the death strike but there is a timing issue with making it work. We watch them age and Landry die as well as Daniel and Vala becoming a couple. As luck would have it Sam finally finds a way around the problem, now they are all well into their late 50's, early 60's though. In order to make it work someone has to stay behind to see things activated accurately. Teal'C makes the choice saying that even aged, he has many years ahead and the rest should go, to return to as they were. It works and despite Prometheus destruction the team survives and is returned to their younger selves. Only Teal'C, now older and marked with a thick gray path above the temples, knows and recalls what happened during those years. The episode ends with the team standing at Gate's edge reciting a string of axioms before going through the Gate on one more adventure.
My thoughts would be that a true series finale would have O'Neill, Quinn and other key support characters in tow while being double length. I know, I know they didn't know and couldn't plan.
Ark of Truth: This movie felt like a planned wrap up as it included Ori soldiers, the return of Adria, the lone Ori who is all powerful, Merlin via visions, Morgan LeFey and Replicators...what, Replicators!!! Still no O'Neill but it was a great wrap up all the same.
Continuum: This felt like a very retro mid-season two parter episode. I dare say I was more into this than Ark of Truth + it had O'Neill + Hammond. Am I the only one who in a time altered state would've liked Quinn stopping buy? Especially since this is the last tele-film and a wrap for SG-1 adventures basically. This version of the script wouldn't accommodate him but it could've be reworked a bit, like when we got Dr.Frasier that one time with parallel universe stories. It was fun seeing Ba'al sliced in half from the torso up by Que'tsh(Vala) a very cool visual. This would end just as 'Unending' did, with the gang going through the Gate yet again. So essentially telling us that SGC and the crew that despite Atlantis(which promos for S4 tell me Carter takes control, spoiler alert!!) is still operating.
This franchise should return to the big screen from whence it was birthed.
That concludes my 11 month journey through 10 seasons and 2 tele-films of watching Stargate SG-1 for the first time and I am glad I own them for sure. It was a fun experience and I'd like to thank everyone who gave me tips and pointers along the way while not spoiling anything for me. Thanks again and down the road I feel an Atlantis first time thread will be coming!!
