Star Trek (TOS) FAQ

cakes516 said:
I have a question...Is the animated series any good? I've never seen an episdoe !!

Many fans like it. I do. It was my introduction to ST. The ten "ST Logs", adaptations in novel form by Alan Dean Foster, have just been reprinted in five trade paperbacks.

The DVD boxed set is out. Your nearest large DVD rental outlet should have disks available. Try the episodes "Yesteryear", "The Slaver Weapon", "The Jihad", "Albatross", "The Eye of the Beholder", or "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth" first. Enjoy!

Before I make the final, final, final as in I'm never doing this again, FAQ -- are there any non-opinion based questions that you'd like to see me add?

I'll draft a single question and a single answer about the subject.

In order for me to know if it's sucky, I'd have to actually bother watching it.

They'd better because I want to see it. And since I'm poor and don't have cable, I can't.

This is a post about Islam and Star Trek.
I will be doing a special Start Trek Podcast of my radio show today. We will be discussing Islam and Star Trek. I will be analyzing the original episode, Specter of the Gun

One of the perks of turning yellow is that I was finally able to fix those embarrassing typos in the FAQ instead of letting them linger until the next update.

Next time I'll hire a proofreader. ;)

I appreciate all the other input as well.
I humbly offer my services as proof reader for anyone interested. It is something at which I was always good... even as a child.

I liked the cartoon ST... for me it was a chance to see Star Trek once again... I was 13 when it aired. I liked the aliens added to the crew... for me it was all about acceptance and inclusiveness.

I don't really understand why some do not like the re-mastered episodes of TOS. I think it just made a landmark, but dated, series more on par with todays CGI technology. One of the most heard complaints by young people is that TOS looks silly & outdated... now it doesn't.

As far as the FAQ: I love it... Perhaps a little history of the main characters' acting credits or character name histories, but that is just my humble opinion.

Glad you like it. I was reading over it again just now and it still holds up after 3-4 years, outside of the question asking about when TAS will be released on DVD. Otherwise I would only make a few very minor adjustments.

I just read it for the first time and definitely appreciated it too - some good info and I learned a few things. But speaking of spelling errors, my only quibble is I noticed Walter Koenig's name is misspelled a few times as Keonig.

The FAQ mentions that there hasn't been a release date for TAS on DVD; this is completely false, since the DVD's were released two full years ago (November 21, 2006). The FAQ should probably be edited to reflect this.

I believe that that matter was addressed here, in January 2007. Unfortunately, the link contained in that post is now dead (due to the board software changeover) and it is impossible to tell from here why the FAQ was not amended at that time. Perhaps Garth or someone else would be so kind as to furnish a new link to an explanation.

Thanks, M'Sharak...although I'm still confused as to why they don't just change it, or why they didn't change it two years ago. :wtf:

Is there even a need for the FAQ anymore? I wrote this four years ago because the series was being released into season sets making TOS more affordable and bringing increased traffic to the forum. That would be something for the current mods and posters to decide.

Originally, I figured there would be a lot of new posters in here who would either be unfamiliar with the series or didn't remember the series to well who would be giving the series a (re)try.

I used to moderate this forum a long time ago but once I moved to moderate other forums I couldn't make changes to this thread anymore except when I was an admin, but that was back in 2005. Anything afterwards was, and is, out of my hands. Sorry.
