Nope. After the Enterprise came out of the comet, there was a palpable hesitation. Kirk had to call the Enterprise and tell them that the BoP was not where it should be. Spock concurred. That delay gave the BoP time to destroy the Farragut and hammer the Enterprise.
That's not what happened. See dialogue and event below (or just watch it again).
Kirk ignored Pike and looped to attack instead of getting out of there. During the Farragut's looping maneuver Kirk never fired a single shot until he had his ventral phasers bearing which took 16 seconds to happen. That delay cost him the Farragut as it allowed the Romulan to charge up and fire it's plasma bolt. Pike was already out of position and closing and he is out of firing range when Kirk requests for Pike to fire. Mitchell thinks their phaser hit was sheer luck. So I disagree that Pike did anything wrong.
KIRK: Something isn't right.
SPOCK: The captain is correct. We should be seeing them by now.
KIRK: Enterprise, I don't like this.
SPOCK: Reading gravitational signature again. It's behind the Farragut.
PIKE: Kirk! Get out of there! Red Alert!
KIRK: Red Alert!
PIKE: Erica close that distance as fast as you can.
KIRK: Attack pattern Tiberius 4.
KIRK: Get behind them. (They don't get behind them)
(16 seconds transpire between "Attack pattern Tiberius 4" to "Fire!")
KIRK: Fire!
KIRK: Fire phasers, Captain.
PIKE: We're out of range. We're just as likely to hit you as them.
KIRK: Maybe you'll draw their fire.
PIKE: MItchell, full phasers, now.
MITCHELL: Holy... We actually clipped them.
PIKE: Nice shooting, Jenna.
Meanwhile, in Balance of Power, Kirk reacted quickly after exiting the comet and pounded the Bird of Prey. I believe it was at this point when the Romulan Commander referred to Kirk as a sorcerer.
In "Balance of Terror" TOS-Kirk's Enterprise is in the same general position that SNW-Pike's Enterprise is which is on the other side of the comet. TOS-Kirk laid down a pattern of fire blanketing where they thought the Romulan would be. If SNW-Kirk listened to Pike, he could've got out of the trap zone and lead the Romulan to Pike so they could team up and attack.
The "Sorcerer" comment is from later on where the TOS-Enterprise and Romulan Bird-of-Prey play the silent game for 9 straight hours and Spock accidentally gives away their position. Kirk orders the Enterprise to reverse course to give some distance and then fires on the Bird of Prey's general area preventing them from sneaking closer to fire their plasma bolt.
Going into the same comet situation with two ships instead of one should've given Pike and Kirk together an advantage over Kirk going it alone.
The pair should've had an advantage but Kirk wasn't working with Pike. SNW-Kirk became Pike's liability, IMHO.
Yeah, but in Kirk's timeline that didn't happen because Kirk didn't try to negotiate a cease fire.
There was a block of time of about 9 Hours where TOS-Enterprise and TOS-Romulan were stopped silent. It would've been interesting if the Romulan secretly called for reinforcements.
