The verdict is in. Opinions are all over the place but are still mostly positive. After a weak first 10 minutes (similar to Discovery), the show really took off with an interesting set of characters, more than a few mysteries and an awesome state-of-the-art ship. A lot of people also feel that it's reminiscent of the animated Star Wars, yet it still has its own thing going on. Is it Trek? That remains to be seen. It's definitely a new kind of Trek. Will its target audience like it as much as the adult fan base seems to? That remains to be seen as well. And to top it all off, we have the legendary Captain Janeway along for the ride. I was starstruck too.

so the first one is 1 and 2 thats why theres no episode 2??? i dont see it on paramount plus cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I was also under the misguided notion that the 45 minute pilot was just 1 long episode... and not 2 episodes clumped into 1.

To be fair, for Prodigy, I think 25 mins per episode seems a bit... brief. 45 mins (while maintaining 10 episodes per season) might have been better... or at least full 30 to 35 mins.

I rewatched the premiere of Rebels after watching Prodigy and I was struck by at least one major difference. The heroes of Rebels have, by the end of their first 44 minutes, a body count in the low-mid double digits depending on how strong you want to believe Stormtrooper armor is. One of the villains even throws someone to their death as a punchline. Life is cheap in that show in a way that it isn't so far in Prodigy.

Of course, having just said that, this episode will now do a dramatic u-turn and Murf's going to sit on the "make a planet uninhabitable with biogenic weapons" button.

Its a fairly common thing in the animation space. Spesh with Nick* - Korra and ATLA did the same.
I imagine there are a multitude of reasons behind that, but one of them is surely cost.
A show of this level of quality(one that far surpasses Rebels and The Bad Batch) will be mightily expensive.

One of my favorite scenes will be the one from the preview - someone needs to make a gif of Murf trying to eat that holo ball XD

This episode was ok, but I thought the most interesting thing about it was the ending and the Chimarium ship. The stuff on the Protostar reminded me too much of the DS9 episode Valient which I am not a fan of and Dal is kinda annoying. I did like the stuff between Rok and Gwyn though.

Shuttle replicators would explain Voyager's endless supply XD
Especially with how fast you can replicate them.

If it only took a few minutes to replicate the entire shuttle with several industrial replicator arms, that's very reasonable.

I guess they realized that manual labor of building the Delta Flyer by hand was less time efficient for the crew than combining old school Industrial Arms with 24th Century Replicators to quickly assemble any small vessel or craft as needed.

Also Dual Warp Cores in a "V" Configuration reminds me of V-Cylinder Engines in a car for some reason.
