Finally finished season 2. I will just put my thoughts here on it. I enjoyed the season. Not as strong as season 1 and a bit confusing with the time travel stuff. But I liked how everything got tied up at the end and if this is the last of Prodigy, which would be a darn shame, then it's a nice sendoff.

I just finished watching the finale, and it felt so good to have a familiar Star Trek on the screen again. I have nothing but great things to say about the show, except that it ended with the Mars attack. That was a gut punch for me, because it ushers in the crude, pessimistic, xenophobic Trek of the Picard era.

And watching Janeway resign and knowing Picard did too was just a gut punch, mirroring the reality of so many important political figures fading away, surrendering the future to darkness.

I really wish they just ended it with Dal's first day in class, or maybe a montage scene of their time at the academy and eventual assignment to a ship as ensigns.

Janeway doesn’t resign, she remains a part of Starfleet and helps create the pilot program for the USS Prodigy to be a training ship that will act as an envoy of optimism and diplomacy. If anything, it is showing there is hope for a brighter future even in the face of tragedy.

Well, Janeway wanted to RETIRE actually, and she did succeed, for a very brief amount of time before the circumstances around synth attack on Mars pushed her out of the retirement, so she stayed on active duty and as you said she piloted a program for USS Prodigy in turn.

While it does show there's a brighter future in the face of tragedy, its kinda sad that it indicates the USS Prodigy is the only ship in SF apparently carrying out SF's original goals... with every other ship being pulled back - which seems bad in itself.
On the other hand, it does seem like this period of UFP closing itself off would last for about 14 odd years before resuming standard operations (assuming the period doesn't last longer than ST: Picard events).

Between the weapon attack (forget the name) in the S1 finale and then catching up to the synth attack from Picard in the S2 finale, yeah, it makes sense that Starfleet would temporarily pull back from exploration. However, by the time of PIC S2's 250-year celebration, it seemed like Starfleet was already returning to exploration. Taking 15 years to pull back and rebuild is reasonable, no?

Be awesome if they would put this damn show on Netflix in Canada so we can watch season 2.

That's how the game works. You pay somebody something.
Yes, I am aware of this. My point is, I should be able to watch it streaming like I have with ever other season of every other Star Trek show. I will buy the dvds eventually, as I do with all ST shows except Discovery and SNW, but I should have been able to watch season 2 of Prodigy as it aired.

Contracts are hard.

Not that hard. It's available on US Netflix, release it everywhere else, as well.
It doesn't work that way. In fact, it's only been in very recent years there's been syncing up of things from American streaming services also being available on their Canadian outlets. Hell, the modern Star Treks weren't allowed to be on Canadian Paramount+ until fall 2023. Even now, there are Netflix programs which aren't available to the Canadian Netflix, Prodigy is not unique in that regard. Canadian streaming rights are one extremely convoluted quagmire.

Strangely enough, Canadian Paramount+ did acquire Yellowstone last year despite the fact the American Paramount+ still can't.

Oh, but you see, according to people on the internet, contracts are very easy and Paramount is clearly overthinking this.

;)
