Star Trek Next Generation: A XXX Parody

Em... how does this fly under the parody defence that is used by pornographic companies to do this sort of thing? Where the actual parody in this? it looks like straight forward ripoff with some added sex.

Having said that, for this sort of thing the production values look pretty great - I bet a cut version with all the sex cut out will be floating around the web before you know it!

The definition of parody is when you make fun of the thing you're trying to imitate. By that definition, no, this is not a true parody. However, I'd rather see this than something juvenile that makes fun of TNG. And I'm sure the producers of this "parody" thought the same thing. I'll bet they'll make more sales off this particular movie in their collection than all the others combined. I mean, would anyone here actually purchase a DVD or Blu-ray of "Scooby-Doo XXX"?

I believe the movie already has the option to watch a censored version.

Without a fair-use defence based on parody, what's to stop Paramount suing them into the ground?

I have no idea what kind of agreement the porn company has with Paramount. I'm guessing there has to be something though; otherwise it's as you are implying: They're essentially making a fan film of TNG and selling it. Since you could say that about all their parody titles, I'd bet they have permission to do this.

I would be absolutely amazed, no literally staggered if they have express permission to do this - there is no way on earth I can see Paramount giving permission to a pornographic company to make this sort of production using their IPR. The fact that they have put "Parody" in the title (even thought it seems to be nothing of the sort) seems to an attempt at a fig-leaf of legal protection under fair use.

FOX went after the same company for their X-Files Porno, originally titled "The Sex Files" (ha) and I think they went to court over it, and ultimately had to change it to "The X Files - An XXX Parody" to separate it from the real thing. I'm not sure, but if it was in court I believe it set a legal precedence which has allowed them to do the same thing for other franchises, even Trek with the TOS porno that was made by the same company.

Actually, the TOS porn series is made by Hustler, not the same company that is producing these parodies.

Ah, my bad then. Im sure it was the same folks who made the X-Files one though, right?

Any title that's the actual name of the show or movie they're parodying (i.e. The X-Files, The Flintstones, Seinfeld, etc.), but with "an XXX parody" after the name, is a Digital Sin production, the makers of this TNG porn.

You know, Joe Zhang makes a good point, now that I think about it. Aside from the rumpy-pumpy, how is this production any different from what James Cawley does, other than that the porn industry has enough bucks to cover any lawsuit thrown against them, and Cawley doesn't?

What I think makes the case against them any stronger is that, as you mention, you can watch a censored version with all the action taken out. If it plays as a completely strange of TNG, I can't see how they have a leg to stand on.

Still having said that, the story actually more interesting than most fan fictions I've come across.

wow this looks awesome (for a porno)

i'd watch it even if it wasn't a porno.

the porn will be an added bonus.

As far as permission goes, this same company has done/is doing a number of comic-book character porn "parodies," and I know for a fact that they do not have permission from DC Entertainment/Warner Bros. to do so, so I cannot imagine that the situation with Paramount is any different.

This is hilarious.

Did anyone else read this...

After thorough research, Hain and Director of Photography Eddie Powell will shoot the space sequences with the models in front of a green screen.

...and think, "Wait--what?"

If you'll pardon the pun, this looks like it's light-years ahead of the porn parodies I watched back in the 80s and 90s.

It took me an age, but I finally watched the trailer. I sort of forgot about the TNG porno until a mention of it popped up on NeoGAF.

Holy shit, I think I would physically go out of my way to buy this.

I'm going to put it out there - India Summer is a better Tasha Yar than Denise Crosby.

I know. What started here as a casual oddity, it's been gathering steam and gaining attention (Conan O'Brien mentioned it in a joke Tuesday).

And I find myself thinking about it from time to time... mind straight in the gutter. Or in the Jefferies Tubes or whatever. :mallory:
