Star Trek movies re-scored with Goldsmith music

I'm guessing there's not much chance that would be TMP instead of First Contact.
Of course it's TMP.
First Contact killed all my interest in watching Picard movies so I've never watched Insurrection and Nemesis.

Anyway, Search for Spock re-score is done. Undiscovered Country next in the line.

I was going to start another thread but I figure this one's recent enough to rechristen as a general "plug other Star Trek music into other Star Trek movies" thread.

So on a quite similar tip, what if James Horner had stayed on to score Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and finish off the Genesis Trilogy? Let's imagine!

Honestly, I don't think the Goldsmith music works very well in that Search for Spock clip. The cue doesn't really follow along with the way the scene was cut.

As a curio I quite enjoyed the clip (as well as the He-Man laser cannon sound effects), I appreciate the effort put into it! Though I do agree Horner's "barbarians riding elephants" Klingon music does fit that scene best.

They said 'musical integrity'. As in the state of being whole or undivided.

We actually have Horner to thank for what holistic integrity the movies do have: it was his idea for Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan to bring back Alexander Courage's TOS fanfare, which didn't appear anywhere in The Motion Picture. It's subsequently been used in every Star Trek movie since then.

I love Jerry Goldsmith's oeuvre, but no way would I swap out any of the film scores from the other composers. Horner's work is simply brilliant, Leonard Rosenman's score for IV is hugely under-rated, it really works for that movie - and I adore Cliff Eidelman's work on VI, its very subtle and emotional.

The weakest scores for me are 'Generations', which has some nice work, but seems to be bound by the stupid rule not to be too dramatic, that TNG' producers insistent on having. Sadly, I find Goldsmith's work on Insurrection and Nemesis to be kind of weak by his incredible standards. Especially for Insurrection, the action sequences seem to re-use bits from US Marshalls that he also scored.

We do hear a version of the original theme in TMP, during Kirk's captain's log.

This is true! TMP references TOS using the intro theme tune rather than the fanfare motif.

I've always wondered if Goldsmith didn't bother with the fanfare because his TMP theme already kind of sounded like it when played real fast, and could simply function as its own fanfare. Example here at 1:42, when the Enterprise hits Warp 7 (also bonus main TOS theme at 00:30!):

On that note, when I was a kid I thought the TMP theme WAS the TOS fanfare, or at least an extension of it. But they're actually two separate pieces of music that weren't even originally used together at all!

Especially for Insurrection, the action sequences seem to re-use bits from US Marshalls that he also scored.

There's definitely a "standard Jerry Goldsmith action sound" that Insurrection in particular seemed to lean on at times, and while it always sounds awesome it can seem a little generic compared to his other Star Trek scores.

Everytime someone talks about replacing music in Star Trek, I think John Williams:
